Posted by: alberto

nice to see yall are out there. I was begining to wonder

Where does everyone ride? My family and I mostly ride SANDLAKE. I know DEATH TRAP, but its close to home and we always go mid-week. Hit Christmas Valley last year. That place was very cool. Been to FLORENCE (South Jetty) mostly. Love that place

I will post pics of Christmas Valley trip soon.

Posted by: WesDS450X

Florence is the best dunes in oregon, i dont even waste my gas at the other places its ***** **** lol

Posted by: alberto

Yeah I like FLORENCE too. THey whats the name of that little mexican resturant right off of HWY101? Its on the right side if your heading south. Looks like a total shack. That place rocks.

"CHIEF SLAP A HO" thats some funny sh1* right there

Posted by: WesDS450X

if anyones going to florence any time soon hit me up, i need a ride lol

Posted by: Wheelie

I don't live in Oregon, but I hit the Oregon dunes frequently throughout the year.

Winchestor Bay is my personal favorite.

Posted by: skillet

JUST 5 MINUTES AWAY FROM SOUTH JETTY, JUST ABOUT 20 AWAY FROM WINDY BAY.

Posted by: WesDS450X

Hopfully ill be up at florence this sat =]

Posted by: mattonln

yo wes, i live in eugene too but I usually ride winchester bay or coos bay. I just got my motor rebuilt and Imma bout to put it back in the frame so I'm down to ride all the time. it would be tight if you wanna kick some gas money. let me know bro.

Posted by: WesDS450X

i might be down to go 1 or 2 times or so, but i dont really care for win bay or coos, ****s weak compared to florence lol

Posted by: mattonln

yeah right, florence is buuunk, you might as well go to sand lake haha!!

Posted by: WesDS450X

how is it bunk? yeah must be a little ***** about razorbacks

Posted by: mattonln

yeah ooookkkaaaayyyyy broooooo...... take your ds "dune monster" out to florence where all the "razorbacks" are.....
let me guess, you hit every jump 5th gear pinned and get 60hp out of a stock 450, right? tight....

Posted by: WesDS450X

yeah cause my bikes 100% stock huh

Posted by: mattonln

well you do have a slip on.... I don't wanna go back and forth anymore. we both ride, you like florence and I like winchester bay. difference of opinion, thats it.

Posted by: alberto

Looks like we have a DEBATE on our hands Lets hear it I want to know why COOS is better than FLORENCE or vice versa. Heres my 2cents, I love riding the dunes and I think that OREGON is the best place for it. LETS HEAR IT!!!!!

Posted by: mattonln

lol, all I'm saying is that winchester has the tallest dunes in oregon, has alot of good jumps, good tree shots and is home to dunefest. i, personally don't care about drag racing one bit, My bike is built for mx.

Posted by: skillet

EVERYBODY LIKES ARE DIFFERENT. HECK I LIVE IN FLORENCE AND I GET TIRED OF RIDING HERE. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE YOU GOT TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. RIGHT NOW ITS SO TORE UP OUT HERE ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY. QUICKSAND, TRAILS ARE TORE UP,SAND DRIFTS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

Posted by: WesDS450X

i was just at florence last sat. it was awesome wasnt that bad

Posted by: Bryson#221

Yes! Oregon duner, I am

Posted by: WesDS450X

ill be headin up to florence again next week probly wed-thurs

Posted by: alberto

hey this is all really good stuff!!!!!!!

I have a quick technical question. I am rebuilding my sons 400ex. I want to change out the sprockets. What sizes should I go with? I would like to go down one tooth up front and go up one tooth on the rear. What do you guys think? I was also thinking of getting SIDEWINDER or RENTHAL. Let me know you thoughts. THANKS

Posted by: skillet

MY 02 400EX CAME WITH A 14 UP FRONT. I SWITCHED IT TO A 15. I LIKE THE 15 BETTER. ITS COSTS LESS AND IS EASEIR TO PLAY AROUND WITH THE FRONT SPROCKET. THE QUAD IS GEARED PRETTY LOW ANYWAY.

Posted by: alberto

how does that set up work on the dunes? I thought going down a tooth up front would be better on the sand, but you actually went up a tooth. Does that give you a taller first gear?

Posted by: skillet

I LIKE IT BETTER. 1ST GEAR WOULD ALWAYS RAP OUT REALLY FAST, YES IT DOES MAKE IT A LITTLE TALLER BUT NOT THAT BAD. YOU CAN GET SOME MORE WHEEL SPEED. JUST TRY IT OUT, GET A 15 AND 14 IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO SWAP OUT. CHEAPER THAN BUYING A REAR SPROCKET. IT DID THIS WHEN I HAD MY BANSHEE, I DROPED FROM A 14 TO A 13 TOOTH UP FRONT. I THEN COULD START OUT IN 2 GEAR AND LAUNCH BETTER. THIS MADE IT SO I WOULD MISS NEUTRAL. AND IF YOU COULD PULL 2, WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE STARTS IN 1 GEAR, YOU'LL BE IN 2 AND GOING TO 3 GEAR BEFORE THEY WILL.

THE POINT I THINK IS THAT MY 400EX IS SO LOW GEARED. GREAT FOR TRAILS, BUT FOR THE SAND I WANT SOME MORE WHEEL SPEED. THE BANSHEE WAS BUILT UP SO I COULD AFFORD TO DROP ONE TOOTH SIZE UP FRONT. THAT MEANS I DIDN'T HAVE WORRY ABOUT HITTING NEUTRAL. EACH BIKE MANUFACTURE HAS A DIFFERENT GEAR RATIO. AND IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO WITH THE BIKE. MINE IS STRICTLEY SAND ONLY.

Alberto, Hello from Albany, OR. I ride a 2006 400ex. I dropped a tine on the front and left the rear stock. It makes my 1st gear very short but I love being able to go up dunes in third and second and then having 1st gear if I get in over my head. To each their own though... It is a fairly cheap mod (13 or 14 bucks) so get a couple and try them out. Oh, I also lost some speed on the top end but I know and understand that my stock 400ex is not an in-line dragger.

Posted by: alberto

Thanks for the info. Funny thing just happened I was looking at the POST YOUR RIDING PICS thread on the 400ex forum and ran cross your pics. Looks like your rolling a BANSHEE. I hope everything was OK.

Posted by: sonof_perdition

Haha! Yeah, I was fine... however, my buddy was going down a very soft dune face just outside of spinreel and his front tires sunk under the sand. Unfortunately for him, he still had enough momentum to endo... in slow motion. The only casualties were his dual whips and perhaps his ego...

Posted by: alberto

I've broken many a flags and brused my ego too. Thats half the fun. First time I took my wife to FLORANCE I took a jump to fast (showing off ) needless to say the landing was not gracefull at all and damn near tore my man berries off by the chain.

I will check out the different size front sprockets. I know that they are a very cheep up grade. Thanks again guys.

Lol. I am going over there this Saturday- I'm taking a girlfriend of mine to teach her. We are loading up Friday night and heading over early Saturday morning. I am sick of girls whimping out and not going up Banshee Hill so I am going to have to force her...maybe teach her how to master a wheelie? ...jump? Perhaps I'll run into ya? (No pun intended). But yes! The weather is suppose to be really nice with NO chance of rain!! WOO HOO!!!

Posted by: skillet

LOOKING OUT MY FRONT WINDOW IT LOOKS GOOD. ITS ABOUT 60 OR SO HERE NOW. JUST LOOKED AT ACCUWEATHER AND YEP SATURDAY LOOKS LIKE THE DAY TO RIDE.

All my riding buddies keep going on and on about how perfect Winchester is right now. After that crazy cold storm we had blow through a couple weeks ago- it was ALL razorbacks- and now it's smoothed out a lot and there are a lot of jumps and hill climbs. It will be interesting to see.

Posted by: skillet

YOU COULD HIDE A JEEP IN SOME OF ARE RAZERBACKS. I WATCHED TO LONG TRAVEL SANDCARS GET STUCK AND HIGH CENTERED LAST WEEK. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR IT TO BLOW SMOOTH UP HERE.

Posted by: sonof_perdition

Prolly not gonna make it.... have fun though and take pics

Posted by: WesDS450X
