I did a few parts on the EX, as it was beginning to show its age. In a few more days she will be lookin all purdy

nice, how much would it cost for me to buy like a powder coater ?

Posted by: 2000ex

Well, you can get into it fairly cheap about $100 for a hobby gun, and a house oven for maybe $50 used. I just opened my own custom shop and have well over $10K into all my equipment. So it depends on what level of work you are going to be doing.

hey!!! looks great!!! i havent heard from ya in a few weeks...hows the new shop going? hit me on aim

Posted by: nacs400ex

so if i get a hobby gun, would it still be good quality, or will it be crappy ?

Posted by: 2000ex

It will certainly apply the powder to the part and do the job. If you are doing your own stuff, it will be just fine. It does have its limitations if you are doing a great amount of parts however.

looks great.

I am planning on getting a few small parts done first then if i like the outcome, i will get my frame done. I am going to check into the stuff to do my own pc'ing tho.

I just sent my hubs to Pappy today, along with my heat shield. That's the color I'm hoping to end up with, or something close.

After looking (drooling) at the pics again, I have a question. Will the bearings have any trouble going into those front hubs, now that the inner race is now PC'd?

thanks for all your help 2000ex

Good eye. I think its gonna be a bit*h to get that PC out of the races.

Posted by: 2000ex

Nah, they should be simple.

I plugged the hubs but inevitably some PC does get in there. If you were to see em close up you would see that it is VERY thin overspray (like paint). Agreed that it does look like I PC'd them, but it is nothing to worry about

how will the exhaust hold up to the coating? We have a hooby gun from eastwood and have yet to use it.

Posted by: "2-R's Rider"

application is key here,.. along with prep ..
do you know many "mils" you are applying?

Posted by: 2000ex

Between 2-4 mils

Posted by: Live2Ride300

What does 2-4 mils mean? Could you do a frame w/ a hobby gun? What kind of stores selling powdercoating equipment, or whats some good mail order places? Thanx, I know nothing about powdercoating, except it looks awesome.

no flame intended ,,,,,,,,,,,,,just a suggestion type of thing.......

but when you go to press the bearings back into the front hubs the powder will peel and get under the bottom of the bearing causing it to not seat where it is supposed to..........

in my opnion the surfaces should always be taped off..........but i may be completely wrong.........who knows

chris is absolutely right

100% right

I'd take some light grit sand paper and take the layer of powdercoat off to get to the machined surface.
