Picked up my new 450SX yesterday ...

Well I thought I was going to buy a 450R Honda and modify the hell out of it but after seeing the new SX KTM's yesterday at my dealer, I couldn't resist.

I will be taking it out today to start the break-in process. KTM requires you to ride it up to 50% throttle for the first 3 hours and then up to 75% throttle for the next 9 hours, so I can't really get a true feel for a little bit.

I'll post pics a little later. It was already dark when I got home last night. THIS THING IS AWESOME

But, the ktm is kick ***

450R can be bought around 6 grand or a little less if you're lucky.
The 450SX costs around $11300 (msrp though) so you can buy 2 trx's

And you then have two stock quads................ You did the right thing.. My buddy bought a 505, and I love it!!!! If I didn't have my Honda, I'd be riding an orange bike!!!!!

I ended up getting a really good deal on the KTM and decided I'd rather spend more initially and be done with it versus buying a 450R and spending $8k in mods ... so really I'm coming out ahead

I didn't get to ride it much today so I'm taking it out tomorrow. Here are some pics ...

Put it this way - I paid less OTD including the extended two-year warranty than the quad retails for.

Ridersville Cycle in WVA had the 450 SX OTD for $10299..... The 505 was $10599 OTD.... This was a cash price. If you needed to finance, the price was a little higher.....

That one is easy. Less weight, less maintenance, more ground clearance

If its a PDS shock like on the motorcycles, a linkage is not needed. Linkages are overrated anyway.

Can a Honda ever be what this bike is?? Lots of features that is not availabe for a Honda. If this new engine is anywhere close to the old RFS engines, its twice as good IMO, so twice the price is a good deal.

I wasn't able to ride that much this weekend cause I had a lot of other stuff going on and the riding I did was pretty tame due to the break-in requirements. I will say that the quad feels really good at speed, although I really wasn't riding it hard. You can definitely tell it is a MX quad cause the engine likes to be revved and doesn't come alive until at least 1/2 throttle. I need to do the preliminary service this weekend and will then take it to the track where it belongs to continue the break-in process. So far I haven't been able to test out the suspension too much except for a couple little jumps but it feels very controlled and plush. Plus, the front and rear shocks are fully adjustable with high and low-speed compression & rebound so you should be able to dial it in to your liking. Power wise, compared to my buddy's built 450R, the KTM doesn't pack as much punch down low (not as violent of a "hit") but pulls strong from the bottom and definitely has more mid and top-end, perfect for racing MX

More ride reviews to come ...

Yeah I hope so too. This is my first KTM product but I the consensus seems to be that they're pretty reliable. Plus I was able to get the 2-yr extended warranty if anything happens.

I went with the 450cc version because the power difference compared to the 505 is apparently minimal and I don't want to be classified as being in the "open" race class when the bike is technically on par with 450's. I was also considering switching to a bike (specifically the '09 CRF450R) but decided I like quads too much

I got it from Extreme Yamaha/Suzuki/KTM in Tempe. The dealership is part of Apache Motorcycles (one of four stores total). All of our toys have come from them - great people, good deals, convenient, everything you could ask for.
