My ds 450

Hi im new in here and am from the uk. My names Ben Harman. Heres some pics of my can am ds 450's. Its got epic a arms and axle, fox shocks all round, fireball steering stem, pro taper bars, full motorworks exhaust system, motorwork air filter, motorworks efi unit,ac racing nerfs and nudge bar, precision steering damper and a quadtech seat cover. They are currently running at 51 horse power.
When we first got the bikes they kept going in to limp mode. But weve sorted that with some new software in the bike so it will run at a higher temp. Weve found that if you run with the airbox lids on you gain 1 horsepower. Adrenalin atv built these bikes and do pretty much everything for the can ams. www.adrenalinatv.co.uk

niice , where did you get the yellow things on the rim from ?
Where abouts you from ?

Posted by: ds450racer

Hi. The wheels are hiper tech wheels. When you buy them you get to choose what colour ring you want on them. And im near brighton.

Posted by: mike_1985

just down the road from then ( Croydon) . You race it alot ? Maybe you can point me in the right direction for some enduro racing , mx is out my league for as i dont have the bankroll for broken bits and pieces . Take it their both off road ? I got mine on road

Posted by: ds450racer

yeah mine are sxet up for mx. I dont really know many enduro clubs only mx clubs. Best way to find them is to look in the uk quad magazine. At the back is a clubs section.

so u leave the airbox lid on with a full system and still gain a horse how dose that work.
thanks

Posted by: ds450racer

Got no idea. Because its full injected it might work differently. But we put it on a dyno and it had 1 horse more with the lid on.

Posted by: montsb

WOW! That is strange! I will put my lid back on! Keeps the air cleaner---cleaner!

Sweet ride man!!! I get worried every time I start reading these post with all the gloom and doom I read about. Have you had any problems with your DS 450? Also, mine went into limp mode while riding on the dunes. How did you fix that/or how can I do that with mine? Any info will be helpful.

Posted by: ds450racer

Thanks! No problems aprt from the limp mode. The thing we did to stop it is if your at a race is let the bike cool down then clean the radiator out with a power cleaner. We went to a can am dealer and they had some software and a lead that went in to a computor. They plugged the bike in and made it so it would run at a higher temperature.

What's done to the motors? I have been in testing for the last 8 months on engine packages. They look real good though.

As a racer, have you thought about an after market radiator? Would that help keep it cooler? I was just putting around on the dunes with the outside temp around 85 F or so and it was in limp mode. What do you think? Or, is tweaking the soft in the computer better? I know limp mode is to save the engine, but it sure seems like that there should be a way to keep it from getting that warm in the first place...

Posted by: ds450racer

Nothing has been done to the motors. We only have you motorworks efi unit on it. We are soon getting some power commanders on them though.

Yes we are probably going to get one soon. If i was you and ride in the dunes alot then i would get a pwr rad. Also see if you can tweak about with it on the computer. If you have the money to rubuild an engine you could take the limp mode of of it, but as soon as you do that the warramty goes on it.

I have an intake system that is very nice. I will have dyno results in a week or so, but when I put it on the quad it has a noticeable different low end Hit.

Posted by: ds450racer

The thing is its not the engines getting to warm. Its the overheating sensor set to low.

Limp mode would not change just by rebuilding the motor. Limp mode is in the computer.

That is the TRUTH!

Posted by: ds450racer

Yeah but you CAN take the limp mode out of it

you know how?

Posted by: ds450racer

coz the factory can am team have done it over here.

Posted by: WatersRacing

Yes, it is possible to remove the limp mode, but not just anyone can do it.

Who can do it?

Posted by: montsb

I have a friend told me that info from another forum, he read that the PWR Radiator brought the temp down on a Raptor 30-40 degrees. Do you think that it could be that big of a difference on the DS-450? If so, that might put the "limp mode" issue to rest???

Posted by: ds450racer

Yeah i reckon it could help quite a bit. But as i said before. Its not the machine getting to hot,it's the sensor set to cut it out at too lower temerature. I think if you went to your can am dealer and got them to raise the temeratrure i should help out alot.

Posted by: ScottB125

The sensor most likely works off resistance. There are ways to trick the computer into thinking everything is ok by splicing in a resistor.

I'm extremely busy, but if I have time, I will look into it some more.

Hey ds450racer. Where did you get those brush guards? I have been keeping my eyes open, and have yet to see them. Also like that they say Can-Am and the colors!!!

Posted by: TWISTED DINLI

nice can am's man!

Posted by: ds450

Does anyone really know how to get rid of limp home mode with the b.u.d.d.s program? I work at a dealer and I have access to the program.

Do you mean the handguards? If so than they are a can am product. Your can am dealer should be able to get them. If you not we can get them over here and send them to you.

Posted by: montsb

The hand guards! They are beautiful!!! I will check with my BRP dealer. If not, I sure will take you up on the offer. I want some just like those!! Those are sweet!!!

Posted by: atvlover

It is not a good idea to try and set the resistance on the sensor to a setting that will "trick" the computer. The EC
U uses the head temperture to adjust the fuel. If the ECU is fooled into thinking the engine is cold, it will adjust the idle up and lean the bike in an effort to get the bike to operating temperature.

Posted by: montsb

Today, the BRP dealer told me there will most likely and probably will be an upgraded software for the computer on the DS 450 coming soon for the limp mode. Seems as though they set the limp mode on as a safe guard, but have realized that it does not need to be set for that low of operating temp. Sounds like the upgrade will keep limp mode, but set the temp a bit higher before it is engaged. When I find more info, I will let you know as well.

Posted by: montsb

I forgot to mention. The Can-Am dealer here does have the hand guards like yours. They are the powermadd ones, but say Can_Am on them. Only $40.00 with the mounting hardware! Got some on order for mine!!! I think they look beautiful!!! Well done!!!

Posted by: ds450racer

sweet! The hand guards are awesome and dont flap about like the old powermad ones used to. Thats the software ive got on my bikes. It just makes it run at a higher temperature.

Posted by: ds450

montsb, do you know the part number?
