I was wondering what the best setup for sand is?

after doing my own resarch it looks like the gecko sand tires
are the lightest and the cheepest sand tire out there and are not too
aggressive for mini quad's.. about 35 bucks a tire from rocky mountain but there sold out...

Not sure where you came up with that conclusion. Let me start by saying my experience with sand tires for minis is somewhat limited, but I have run many different sand tires on full size quads and we ride almost exclusively in the sand dunes (Glamis). When it comes to full size quads, the Geckos pretty much blow. They are heavy and way too aggressive of a tire. It may not seem to make sense at first, but a high paddle count or tall paddles will kill the power of the quad. In fact, you want to get away with the least amount of paddle necessary to get traction. The lower paddle count will keep the quad from bogging down and will give it more top end speed.

As an example, I ride an LTR-450 with a 20x11x9 Skat-Trak Hauler with 6 paddles. This is less aggressive than the Geckos and it runs great. My son has a Kasea mini 50 with a 70cc kit on it and used 5 paddle Skat-Trak Exciters (145/70x6) and he was able to follow me through most of the big dunes. I just picked up a DRX2-90 for him and he will be running Skat-Trak Gliders (18x8.5x8, 5 paddles).

The Skat-Traks are made by shaving down treaded tries then vulcanizing the paddles to the tire. They are extremely light and plenty strong. I know they are a little more money, but these little quads need any help they can get in the sand.

So, go with light weight (Geckos aren't that light) and low paddle counts. It will make the quad float on the sand instead of digging big holes.

So, here's the 18x8.5x8 5-paddle Gliders he is going to run on the DRX90 L/C. The wheel/tire combo weighs about 7 pounds each.

Sorry for the late reply but here is a picture of what we run they are about the same weight as the sand gecko but work alot better they are called sidewinders made by AMS we ran them on a bone stock Kasea and they worked really well you just have to play with air pressure. We run like 2-5 pounds in them depending where we are riding.

We tried the straight cut paddles for a while just didn't work as well. He was sinking all the time!

WOW a 4 yr. old on a 90,, that is a powerful quad.. good luck ..
my 8 year old is just getting used to his mod 70, and has been
racing his 50 for the last couple of years with great sucess..
