i just got my rappy and the previous owner said that the shop he took it to and had work done and inspection of valves ect... said that the engine had a aftermarket cam and thats all i was told but he said the shop told him that he needs to run 50/50 on the race fuel but engine runs fine on 93 octane will i notice a big increase overall if i run the 50/50 on race fuel and what effect on the engine will it have more heat or cooler i was always told they run cooler on it if its higher octane shouldnt it burn hotter? this is all i know about its internals i soon as i get a chance im going to find out whats been done and check the bore for myself .660 raptor thanks.

the only time you really need to run race gas or even a mix is when you start getting into the higher compression pistsons. (with raptors.. 12.1:1 or higher) It would be worth testing to see if you can run w/ out detonation on 87 or 91 even..

With higher octane your mmotor will run cooler.

i can run 92 or octane but...... it seems like every 5 minutes or so ill get a pop sound and it tries to die but always just one pop sound .it gotta be because the low octane. is that what you mean by detonation ?

popping usually means running to rich.

By early detonation, I mean, when it gets into the high rpm's you'll hear a pinging noice coming from the motor.

might be running rich i dont notice any smoke from the pipe though when it does the sudden pop it like you shut the key off all loss of horse power for the split second usually a quick shot of throttle and it recovers if it does it at idle it pops and dies like you shut off the key could be in the jetting but im thinking electrical i dont really want to do alot to it at the moment but as soon as i get a chance im going to see whats been done inside the motor i traded for the quad and it had alot of aftermarket parts as i was price checking the parts on ebay 2400.00 worth of aftermarket parts and it hit me whats under the seat aftermarket c.d.i.? to my surprise it was stock .why would someone spend so much on aftermarket parts and not even a rev box all i know about the internals is it has a aftermarket cam the guy i got it from said the shop he took it to told him aftermarket cam and to run race 50/50 so im thinking high compression piston in there too ive never owned a raptor this is my 1st one i went from a 2004 400ex to a 2002 crf450r now i know the bike was fast i dont know what the top speed was of the bike but i can easily say this quad runs that fast with my helmet on it feels like its pulling your head off when topped out to much wind lol and accelerates just as hard so i dont want to mess with the jets till after i get a new rev box and it has a full ct racing exhaust but it has the turn down tip and im going to go with the 16 plates instead .so ill rejet when i get the plates and revbox and if it still does the pop it would have to be internal or electrical .
