Danville, VA - Team Monster Engery/Kawasaki representatives were quick to point out last season that its team was in development mode of its KFX450 quad. However, if Pro rider Josh Creamer's run in qualifying Saturday for the TriangleCycle.com ATV National was any indication, development time is now over and it's time to race. The event, Round 4 of the 2008 ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA Pro ATV Championship, is being held today and tomorrow at Birch Creek Motorsports.

Creamer (No. 9 Team Monster Energy Drink Kawasaki) topped the charts with a one-minute, 55.930-second lap, besting points leader Dustin Wimmer (No. 191 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) by less than a 10th of a second. Defending Champion Joe Byrd (No. 7 Joe Byrd Racing School/Honda) was third quick.

"This year is going great," said Creamer, who has one podium and an additional top-five finish in three races. "I had an injury early in the season and I can't cross train the way I'd like to. So, I've just put in more seat time. I've been riding as hard as I can and it's beginning to pay off.

"There are a lot of guys out there that would like to be in my shoes right now; I'm just glad I'm wearing them and that they fit," laughed Creamer. "The bike is just perfect; it fits me great."

Team Manager Jimmy White is pleased with Kawasaki's progress this season.

"It's really coming together," said White. "There are a lot of good riders out there now, and the competition is stiff. Suzuki is always there and Can-Am and Yamaha are really stepping it up. But we put in our dues last season, and, without a doubt, we don't expect less than a podium, if not a win, every weekend. We've really stepped it up."

Rocco Arno, Jr., John Ragon, Cale Downen and Greg Gee qualified for tomorrow's finals through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). Nate Morello, Trent Kandel, Christopher Tait, Richard Pelchat, Hunter Miller and Justin Bush didn't qualify for the 20-quad field.

Rain moved in Saturday night, and it iwll remain overcast for most of the day and the rain chances increase through out the day, so hopefully it stays dry for the both Pro Motos.

Since the last round of racing, John Natalie hurt his eye, so he was riding with a patch over his eye during practice, but hopefully he doesn't need the patch for today's race.

With doubts there will be a WPSA race season for 2008, many racers waiting for the WPSA opening round decided to head to Viriginia this weekend, which drove attendance up to yet another record including even more Pro riders like Cale Downen joining in the mix.

Can-Am, Kawasaki, and many other Pro Racers considered the first few rounds of the AMA ATV Motocross practice for the start of the WPSA season, but now that the WPSA is most likely done for the year, it could make for some very exciting racing since many racers now know that test and training is over if they want a chance at a 2008 Championship.

The 1st moto of racing action is just one hour away, so be sure to keep checking back for updates through out the day.

Posted by: Admin

Pro Moto One has been delayed for one hour due to the heavy rain over night, so the 1st Moto will now start at 1PM instead of Noon.

Posted by: quad2xtreme

Trying to figure out if your post at 11:42 was really at 11:42am or if it is off by an hour. Looks like the website was not adjusted for DST.

Can't wait for the races to start.

Edit...got it. The website time will be 2:00pm when the races are actually starting at 1:00pm EST.

Posted by: JDMXKID

Good lord, we're going to go nuts here waiting even longer!

Now the question is, are they going to delay the second moto also to give them the same about of time to prep their bikes, etc. Rush time!

Posted by: howmuchnow

Kinda funny how the pros can't run in the rain and slop but the ams can.

It isn't that they can't, they just don't want to. And they don't have too. Who wants to see some exciting racing? I do. Therefore you wait longer until the track drys up and gets better lines cut in. I wouldn't want to follow behind someone an entire moto.

Posted by: howmuchnow

They make their own lines. The track is groomed before the pros go out every moto. It would still be good racing they are all still running the same track.

I'm not going to argue with you, all I'm going to say is that they have earned the right to get the track's "prepped and groomed." They did their years racing in the "slop" in the AM ranks.

Posted by: howmuchnow

I think they are afarid that the VS camcorders will get wet.

when did kawasaki switch to fox?

At Kentucky.

Posted by: quad2xtreme

I am all for delaying too if it improves conditions...part of the reason I didn't drive up there today was I figured the slop would stop them from hitting the triples, etc. I especially hate watching muddy races on television.

Well, back to work until the races start...the other reason I couldn't make it today.

Posted by: quad2xtreme

I hope you heard right about Dunk finishing 3rd in the first moto.

Posted by: mjohnamc

Any update on pro start?

Posted by: Admin

Race Recap,

Joe Byrd grabbed the Holeshot and several laps later he jumped into some mud, which allowed Dustin Wimmer to take over the lead for a short while till Byrd regained the lead and pulled away from Wimmer.

Jason Dunkelberger rode strong in the 3rd spot and was challenged at the end of the Moto by Doug Gust, but Dunk was able to hold onto the 3rd place position.

Greg Gee & Sage Baker tangled during the race

Pat Brown had a flat rear tire

More Updates to Come

All manufactors have their good and bad races. No rider, nor machine has been out doing the other. There has been no consistency what so ever. Everyone is fast, all the machines are being pushed to their limits. Its called racing!

Posted by: FHKracingZ

JD has a good point but still , Josh has had nothing but bad luck on that Kawi and thats just the truth!

Posted by: quad2xtreme

Thanks for the update on the women. I wished Angela Adkins would have raced in the Pro Am Women's class. I watched her last weekend at Birch Creek and she is fast. I am not sure how she did in the first moto, but she won the 2nd moto in the C Class last weekend. I was curious to see how she stacked up against these other ladies.

Now that isn't cool to call someone out like that. Josh got his first Pro Podium on a Kawi. I'm not saying it was the bike more then the rider. Because Josh has trained his *** off to earn what he has gotten. But all these guys train, all these guys have good and bad luck at races. Sometimes it's a riders mistake and sometimes its a machanical problem.

are u kidding me? creamer had one podium and three top five finishes already this year. there is a nice article already on atvmotorcross about creamer, you should probably read it. creamer is actually doing really well this year.

Wimmer hasn't been off the podium yet......

Kawi is on Fox Shocks. And Wimmer has been riding the most consistent out of everyone. But he only beat Creamer last round by one point for the Podium. Now I wish I had Wimmer's luck!

And Dunk just missed it too with a 3rd and 8th. If Gust would not have passed Dunk, Dunk would have finished 1 ahead of Lawson. Bummer.

Thanks for all the coverage. I was following the Live Wire and knew the finish here first.

oh yea...so now where does this fit in for everyone who thought Byrd couldn't hang with the WPSA guys?

If you ad it up, it looks like to me Lawson should have 3rd overall. They all had 11 points, but Jeremy finished better in the second moto ??????

Actually Dunk (3-8), Gust (4-7), and Lawson (6-5) all finished at 11, and in the old Format, Lawson would have claimed the final Podium Spot. The new scoring system gives Dunk the advantage with his impressive 3rd place finish in the 1st Moto.

Again, Congrats to Dunk!!

Rumour has it,that Byrd dumped DASA and is running Venom engines now!

What happened to Natalie? Both John and Greg Gee must be having second thoughts on the Canams by now, hopefully Canam is paying them large, cause there not making money from being on the podium!!

That a boy Joe, Thats the best way to hush all the bashin up. go out and dominate both motos. Congrats to the Byrd Dog !!!

Posted by: quadlee

I am happy for Dunk also. He has had a Long hard road to get were he is today. I think we mite see his name on the podium again before the year is up.

but he didnt did he? Give Byrd his due. Wimmer has been on fire and Byrd has had a run of bad luck. i am just glad to see all the pros running together this year. It is looking more and more like the WPSA may not run this year (money troubles). i hope not, but well see. Congrats Byrd!!!

Posted by: LTR450_#67

Yeah I meant to say Byrd had the nuts and experience to do in my previous post....I'm pretty sure he's still running DASA too. I think it would take quite a bit to split Joe and the DASA crew.

Posted by: vzmain61

It is a good thing to see the best of the best showing up to a national and the pros having to qualify in. At the same time all the other classes are having a good turn out to. If the WPSA races get canceled for sure this year it will make the AMA Pro championship quite interesting. Im with everyone else on the Byrd issue give him his credit and go on. Wimmer is a good racer just like Gust,Wienen,Natalie and so on and so on. Its anybodys ballgame when they sign in that weekend.

Posted by: Pappy

Wow...some awesome racing!!!

Its almost 5am, and I am just finishing editing the Pro galleries from this weekends event!

Posted by: Pappy

And how bout DUNK!!!

Congrats bud, I was glad I was there for your first Pro podium!!!

Now thats the way to show Byrd how to get hosed!!!

Posted by: Pappy

Looks like Byrd was welcoming back the Pro class riders that had been missing out on all the fun! And what better welcome home present then for him to take the win

Posted by: Pappy

And the Ironman lived up to his name...battling a severe eye infection. I felt so bad for him....but the man doesnt know the meaning of quit!!!

That number 13 just doesn't look right sitting on yellow plastic.
