hey. i got a 426 that locked up. the rod froze to the crank. and i took it to this guy he said it had to be bored to the 440. so while im doin all this i might as well make it as good as new. it alrdy has stage2 hot cam. and he said i need a new crank, or at least it would be cheeper then to rebuild mine. so heres my findings.

needs..
Crank found one for $250ish
440 89mm Piston Under $100
Full Gasket kit About $45
Timing Chain around $50

and do u think i should get a new oil pump?

i also wanna get A Bearing kit and Timing Chain guides but didnt really find any and if so they were alota money.

and i read on here ppl said to do ''HD stud kit'' does ''HD'' mean something or ''Heavy Duty'' and where can i get some?

while doin all this i wanna cut & lapp valve seats check the valve guides and have someone look at the valve cover.

ha well if someone wants to give me some input that would be great.

for a 440 kit you can not bore your cylinder out any more than it already is you would need to re sleeve it unless it's a after market sleeve with room for a 440 bore.On the other hand check eBay for a crank i bought my new Hot rods crank for $87 bucks plus shipping from a legit eBay seller of hot rod cranks it only had slight blemishes nothing that would effect the engine. As for the head studs check out c&d racing or GT thunder they will be a big help, but id check c&d first. And a CRF450r timming chain from servicehonda.com for $27 bucks.

ya its a aftermarket sleeve when i took it there he told me i could go 440. and thx for your help

put a +4mm crank n it, then wit will b a 460 after tha bore

Posted by: TRXRacer1

You should be able to get your current crank rebuilt for $250

The stock oil pump should outlast every other part on the bike

"HD" studs are a total rip off. Get some Time-serts and install them with your stock studs. They'll give your stock studs the same "HD" footprint they need for a lot less money.

would any of u happen to have an idea why the rod locked up?

i dont really wanna make it a 460, only reason i making it to a 440 is cuz i have to.

and if i get the CRF450r timing chain i just use 400ex timeing chain guides and anyone know of a cheap place to get them, also what year?

Posted by: broke400

anyone?

Posted by: BigBore24

yes you can use the stock guides. i dont know where is a good place to get the guides other than dealer or ebay if you get lucky. are yours just really worn out? i agree with trxracer the hd studs arent totally necessary. if you are good with heli coils or other types of inserts you can do that for much cheaper. i did mine a year or so ago on my 440 and they have done well. another thing you may look into is an add on oil cooler, bigger oil tank, or fan for your stock cooler. all three arent necessary but i would recommend one. i bought a universal auto trans cooler from napa and plummed it in with my stock cooler and i dont notice my 440 getting hot.

ya my guides like kinda fell apart. and servicehonda.com is really confusing. i tryed looking for the Crf450r timing chain. so pretty much i just have to start garthering stuff up to get this on the road.

I got a pistion I will sell you its a 440 89 mm je custoum made by sparks its a 12.5 to 1 I believe and a brand new gasket that I ordered from c and d its for the 89 bore you have to have a special gasket for the 440 its a cosmetic steel gasket triple layer. the pistiion was 210 bucks from curtis sparks and the gasket was like 30 I will take 95 shipped for both of them. The gasket was opened but never used and the pistion was skirted to rev quicker which cost me qanother 30 to have done. If you dont want te gasket I can just sell the pistion just let me know. i ahve about 275 dollars in all of this.

Posted by: broke400

pistons new too right?

Posted by: blue_ex_rider

Yea I put it on the rod and put the cylinder in it and it wouldnt work with my stroker crank had to have a special pistion but that is as far as it made it

Posted by: broke400

oh allright. does it have the rod on it? cuz i dont really need a rod.

Posted by: blue_ex_rider

No it has the pistion rings and wrist pin with it.
