i might get a new 4 wheeler soon and have narrowed it down to the z and the kfx450. keep in mind i ride wide open field and trails. i know the kfx has 3 inches more on the z but would that make it slower than the z in the woods? stock for stock on a straight wide open field would a z be far behind or right with the kfx? in the woods would the z be with or even ahead of the kfx?

kfx450's are very quick compared to a stock z. there would be no comparison. if you've got the money go out and get you a new kfx450 it takes way to much to make a 400 beat a 450.

I'm not a big kawi fan but those KFX 450's are pretty fast. I'd consider an LTR also if you don't ride real tight trails. I had a Z400 and just got an LTR and the LTR is a rocket. There's no comparison between the 450's and the 400's

Both the ltr and the kfx 450 are really fast. the kfx is the only 450 with reverse tho. So if your doing the track and don't need reverse get the ltr. If your doing trails get the kfx. The kfx will probably do just as well as the ltr on the track tho.

thanks for the input guys. yea im going to forget about a z. im kinda leaning towards a yfz for some reason now. i want an ltr pretty bad but they are way too wide for my trails. my cousins kfx450 has trouble fitting so that +3 inches on the ltr will cause big probs.

The biggest question I have about the two is which is going to be most reliable.

Don't forget that the Z400 is a built as a trail machine like the 400ex - a little slower but hopefully besides the cam chain issue - more reliable and able to put more hours on it.

Both the KFX450R, LTR450 and YFZ450 are built as race machines and technically require rebuilds every 15 hours - under normal conditions a rebuild is probably likely after 50 hours or so. So consider that.

I wish they'd build them all like my John Deere lawn mower. Just hit the 700 hour mark and all I've had to do is change the oil and spark plugs maybe a valve adjustment.

The KFX is not the only 450 with reverse.

Look into the Polaris, and if you really want something, the KTM.

That KFX450 never ranks too high on magazine shootouts. If I was gonna buy a 450 I would more than likely go for the yamaha YFZ.

That thing is a beast.

The ltr won't be very fast if the trail your riding down is 3" narrower than the bike. I love my ltr but if you ride the tight stuff it will not suit you very well, unless you have the bank to narrow it up.
