I'm looking for a rear shock for my 06 er. I can't afford to buy new and I have found a rear shock that is set up for xc and I ride mx. What is the difference and is it noticable?

Definately a huge difference but way too many things come into factor.Weight, riding style, and on and on....

MX I would think is too stiff for XC because they have to have so much resistance for bottoming out which in XC your not hitting any jumps like MX. As for a XC shock used in MX I bet it is amazing over the whoops or smaller bumps but I bet you would bottom out easier. Ever think of revalving and respringing your stock rear shock?

I have thought about the GTT rear set up. If I can get a long travel set up for a couple hundred more(used), I would think that would be better. What is the turn around on a rear shock service from GT? I hate to have it down, since we are haveing awesome weather here in GA. What would you all do?

Id go for a GTT rear end before an aftermarket shock thats valved and sprung totally wrong lol.

I had a GTT rear end for a whole season before I went to an LT rear.
For most stuff there very comparable. Especially for small stuff. For casing/overclearing stuff and huge whoops is really the only place LT has a big advantage, more plush.

If your tight on money a GTT rear is nice.
