shifting trouble

I recently bought a used 02 400ex over the winter and just got done putting in a new cam chain. When I try to ride it, the shifting is notchy-a little hard to shift. It will shift, it's just not smooth, and its hard to get it into neutral. I thought it was 1st/2nd gear at first, which would be a shift fork, but after riding it some more it seems to be through all the gears. I've tried adjusting the clutch both directions at the perch and down below with out any noticable change. Does that sound like the clutch? Im not too hard on clutches so this is my first issue with one. Thanks

Try your clutch. Look for notches on the basket.

There were some slight grooves on the basket where the tabs on the friction plates move. I took a file and cleaned them up a little , but I didnt think they looked that bad.
