Like the title says, what's the best size rim/tire combination for MX?

On a 250r I always liked 18-9.5-8 turf tamers with a few selected knobs cut off on the back and 20 inch up front.

I run 18x10x8 holeshot mxr6's (hook up very well in the loose stuff) and 19x6x10 holeshot mx's on the front.

Im about to switch my combo up to ITP quadcross's

I like running 19x6x10 holeshot mx fronts with lightweight douglas wheels and out back I run 18x11x8 razr mx on shamrock beadlocks.

keep everything light and the razr mx's hook up very good in loose terrain.

turf tamers??? they last like a week then you need now tires your right about the size tho

I have a used set of turf tamers that I got off a fellow member here and they dont hook so well, my holeshots hook very well compared to those, maybe grooved turf tamers will hook?

Thanks for all the responses guys. I've posted this on another site too, and have gotten similar responses. Right now I'm working on picking up a set of 10" front and 8" rear rims. 18"x10"x8" seems to be the ticket for the rear, but what specific brand/style I haven't decided yet. Probably whatever I can find for a good price. As far as the fronts go, what is the reasoning for running 19" fronts compared to 20" fronts?

When I first got my front wheels, I did it for looks. I like the look of a 19" tire compared to a 20", but now im switching to a 20" front for traction purposes

it depends on your location. around here we have alot of clay, deep loam, and rich soil. so the turf tamers work great and holeshots, razrs, etc. get way too much side bite and traction, wont let the motor spin up back in the powerband. if you are in a more sandy mix the tamers dont get much traction and the some of the tires mentioned above are better suited.
