I've had my eye on this for a while, but I needed to move my 250R to get it. When you think "race quad", you don't always think "Warrior" at the same time, but this one's a bit different. It's a '96. Most all the aftermarkets you see on it were done three years ago and have very few hours on them. It has sat in a carpeted front room in the front window of a small engine repair place for the last two years, on consignment since the owner bought a YFZ450.
The owner was a machinist at the aircraft repair facility in Oscoda (Michigan), and he custom fabbed several pieces on it. He was also a neat freak, which is pretty obvious when you see it. In these pics it's sitting at 48" in front and 50" in back, and that's with the spacers for the adjustable axle on the outside of the hubs. The rear wheels are 3:6 offset. The front has +2 arms but also has 3:2 reverse offset wheels, meaning the 3" is to the outside. After I took these pics I flipped the rear wheels and put the 1" axle spacers on the inside of the hubs, bringing it to 46". It still has 1/4" spacers I could move if I want another 1/2". I still had a set of flush-mount valve stems laying around, so I put those in the front wheels and flipped them to put the 3" to the inside, which would be normal for stock wheels. Now the front sits at 46" too. Should be perfect. I also took off most all of these hideous stickers too, for cleaner look. The shocks are set up for 175lbs. MX, and they ride awesome with my 185lbs. on it. Now to the lengthy list of goodies.

-Custom-fabbed rear carrier with tapered bearings in a 90w oil-bath
-Front-mounted oil cooler with custom-fabbed stainless hard lines and AN fittings
-Custom-fabbed adjustable upper shock mounts in front
-Frame and swingarm powder-coated, after the different frame mods were done.

Custom stainless oil lines. Look closely at the adjustable upper shock mounts. Billet tabs for the shocks mated to multi-holed frame brackets for different ride heights.

Pro peg mounts. He welded custom mount tubes to the frame both in front and where the footpeg would be. Just like my Arens 250R frame had.

He tore up the stock steel carrier due to a bad bearing, so he copied and hand-built one out of aluminum. This has tapered bearings with seals riding in a 90w gear lube oil bath, instead of grease. He also made the parking brake blockoff plate.

He also machined the countershaft sprocket guard. The AMPlink doesn't have the wheels in it currently. He blew a bearing in one. Not sure if I'll replace them or not. I think he left it on for additional chain protection.

The cockpit. I'll need to find some uncut gray front fenders, but they'll be tough to find in the shape needed to match the rest of the bike. It also has a twist throttle. I'm iffy on that, but I'll give it a shot for a while.

I scored this thing for $2300!
This is my new XC race ride, that will also see trail duty. If I can't do well on this, I need to find a new hobby.

I would put the straight line acceleration easily on par with, or probably better than, the 250R it replaces. The torque is amazing though. It hits really, really hard off-idle and down low. The torque down low will pop the front end up to clear logs and stuff at-will, but it stays down a lot better in a straight line running through the gears than the 250R did. It could stand to be geared down a touch to make it a little more controllable when sneaking around the tight trees in 1st and 2nd gears.
I used to have a stock-bore 400EX with a hi-comp piston, Stage 2 Hotcams, good valve springs, and a full exhaust, and this thing makes that look like it was tied to a tree. It should easily run with stock or mild 450's from the start to the first turn, where it matters.

nice. I didn't see a mention of a cam. is there a different cam in it? any head work done? after this riding season, I will be pulling my motor and going through it. so I'm just weighing my options. has it been reliable so far?

So far, yes. I just picked it up yesterday.
I picked it up from the guy who owned the small engine shop, but I haven't talked to the actual owner yet (they're buddies). He was on vacation in Mexico and will be back tomorrow, and I'll be hooking up with him to pick up some stock parts and a few other things. The other guy said the whole motor is whatever comes with the FST 446 kit, cam included, but I'll be asking the former owner some more technical questions about the particulars of the inside of the motor.

The one I just got rid of was my second 250R. They're a nice toy, but for my XC racing, I'm over them. I need electric start for the dead-engine starts in XC, the better torque of a four stroke for the tight woods, and I don't need the hassle of carrying and mixing oil when I pull into a gas station while on the trail with my family. My wife and kids can't stand to ride behind the two stroke either.
Why a Warrior? I didn't want "a" Warrior, I wanted THIS Warrior. Where else are you going to find this level of ride, with these kinds of mods, for $2300? Nowhere, I looked. There are people all over Michigan trying to get $2500 for STOCK Warriors, and $2000-2500 for beat-to-crap near-stock 400EX's. I live in the boonies of northern Michigan, 80 miles from the nearest freeway, and four hours north of Toledo, OH. This quad was 15 mins. from my house. I had $2500 to spend, and this was by far and away the most quad I could get my hands on for the money I spent, regardless of make or model. I've raced a lot of different quads over the last few years, and this thing rocks. I can't wait to get it on the track and in the woods.

im efinetly impressed. i love it man. i've been slowly working on mine for the last couple years and the mext thing on my list is suspension that is similar to yours. i like the adjustable set up for the height in the front. the whole machine is killer dude. let me know how the mx goes with it.
