Which one would be better? I can get an LT80 used for $1200. It's an 02 with DG pipe and bumper also has sand tires. Or the typhoon is $1700 brand new.

It depends on what your going to do.
The typhoon if your going to build a race machine.
The LT80 is a great dune/trail machine.

What type of riding will you be doing? Can you provide more info on your rider and your mechanical ability as well.

2 Strokes are generally easier to work on...a lot less moving parts inside the engine

If you going to spend $1,700 on an Extreme...You may want to consider looking for a used DRR or Apex quad

We have owned several LT80's and they really are a great quad. My son absolutely loves his. He is on his second. We sold the first to move up to a Polaris 90 and wound up selling that and getting another LT80. Excellent four wheelers. Suspension isn't the best but my son beats his to death and it keeps asking for more.
