I want to put a 400ex front end but is there anything else need like different front spindles or anything because I already Know that I need 400ex a arms tie rods brake lines and shocks but what else is needed?

youll need the shock relocator bracket to run 400ex shocks. If you get the 400 spindles it will handle a little better, but im not sure if you would have to get new calipers.

Oh yea forgot to mention the relocator thing but all I am really doing with it is a few small jumps and trails so i dont need it to be amazing. Do you know if the 400ex shocks and a arms will make it ride smoother then the stock 300ex front end or would I be better getting just 400ex a arms and using stock 300ex shocks to give it a softer ride?

I'm in the process of the same mod to my EX. So far I have gotten the shocks, the tie rods are ordered and I am looking for a arms. I will wait on the relocation bracket till I am (sort of) sure what one will work best.
In researching this I am under the impression that 400EX a arms and stock 300EX shocks are a bad combination. They make for a real soft, way to soft front suspension.

Yea I am in the process of buying everything and I am looking to spend under $125 for everything and it looks like I might be able to. I hope it mounts up nice and changes the ride a good bit.

When i did it on my 300EX it was such a remarkable difference. Way better ride. 400EX A arms, 400EX Shocks, Tie Rods, and Relocator Bracket.

klutch, who made the bracket that you used?

a arms, brake lines, tie rods.
I rode a 300 with 400 arms, 300 shocks, and then we put upper relocator bracket on, felt like it had more travel, but was also softer so thats maybe why it felt like more travel, shocks were used so who knows how good they are, but they seem ok. however I would not say that the stock shocks make it too soft.

Will the 300 tie rod ends fit on 400 tie rods?

400ex arms (stock or +1 will work fine for most people as the 400ex arm is already an inch or so wider then the stock 300)
Use a quality shock relocator. This is a component that you really should not skimp on, its a major part of the swap and should be as solid as possible. (I know you never ride hard or jump..BS, it doesnt take much to cause you a flight to a trauma center because some homemade ebay bracket saved you $75)
400ex stock front shocks work well for average riding, and you can upgrade later if you feel they are getting to soft (better handling is followed by faster riding adding to the point above about not being such a cheap *** that you use ****ty parts)
The calipers will work with 300 or 400ex spindles, and depending on the arms you can retain the stock brake lines.

Haha I didn't want to make it seem like I was a cheap *** I just wanted a better ride for trails and I didn't want to put into it what I got into my 450's front end but I am going to do this conversion if I dont sell the quad becuase it is in my local paper as we speak.

Pappy. were do I find the shock relocator at? I got the 400ex arms and tie rods put em on and the 300ex shocks are a inch or so to short. and what would the 400ex spindles do for it?

If you use the 300ex shocks with the 400ex a-arms they are 4 inches shorter and will make the front end almost useless, the best way is to use the relocator bracket and 400ex a-arms and shocks which will basically give you a 400 front end on a 300. Also using the 400ex spindleswill help with the turning, and all your 300ex parts will bolt right on. We got our relocator bracket from KOQ RACING, it was 85.00 and 8.95 to ship. call Tom @ KOQ and he can fix you up.

using 300 shocks does not make the front end worthless. and sure the shocks may be way shorter, but the upper shock mount sits alot higher on the frame on a 400 than on a 300, thats why when you put those long shocks on a 300 frame even with 400 arms, you need the relocator bracket because they are too long for the frame without modifying the mounting point.
