Hey guys. I just got the JD Jet kit in. All stock except for baffle out. It runs real well but when you hit the throttle real quick and right back off it dies. Does thisa mean adjust the fuel air screw for more air. I am in Iowa, about 300 ft ebove sea level. 170 jet, red needle, clip on 5, big O ring.??? O ya... It was like 38 here today if that makes a big difference.
Also I did the valves. It helped some but still has some chatter. Is this just somethin all these motors have, or should it go away completely when adjusted???? thanks in advance!!!

as far as the stahling, is your idle set high enough? like 1700 to 1800 rpm. Your set up is very similar to mine, which is a little rich, but not bad. I have stock exhaust, ehs lid. JD kit with 168 main, red needle in the 5th, and big o-ring. I did jump up to a 48 pilot, 1 turn out on the screw. I live at 800 ft in IL. As far as the noise, these are noisy engines.

try moving ur clip to 4th position, i did that and it helped. and yes, raise ur idle up a little

I raised the idle. that helped, doesnt die anymore but still kinda has a slight miss. I will try moving the clip. thanks guys. So the engine chatter is completely normal. I adjusted the valves myself and had never done it before, and it still chatters. im just paranoid.

If you install the big o-ring that came with the JD kit, it will eliminate that last little hiccup when stabbing the throttle. Then you can also check your AP timing and gap it to .100. When you get to that point hit us up and I will dig up the link on Predatorowners.com that I did the write up for it.

Ok... AP timing.... would that be accelerator pump?? Im new to workin with the carb. And if that is what you are referring to, how do you exactly adjust it. Thanks for the help so far guys!

ok I'm not fully uderstanding the ap timing adjustment. I nderstand its the screw where I pt the big o-ring what I don't understand is you guys say to se a feeler gauge for .100 but on the feeler gauge there are two sets of numbers the closest numbers mine has is .004 on top and then .102mm on the bottom is this the one I should use or am I looking for the number on top to be .100?

someone's gotta know. I got my machine torn down and am waiting for a reply PLEASE HELP.
Posted by: Evasiveone
The gap is too big for a feeler gauge. What I used is a set of digital calipers like this- digital caliper
The measurement is .100" (inch)

wow! adjusting the ap timing made a huge difference on mine.
mine must have been way off.
thanks guys.
