I was just looking around and did a search and it didn't come up with what I was looking for but anyway here is my question. I have an 07 yfz and right now I'm running amsoil 10-40 full synth.. My question is in the summer would I be better off switching it to 20-50 and then back to 10-40 in the winter.. What is your take on this.

Yup, 20-50 summer, 10-40 in cooler months. Exactly what I do.

while were talking about oil, anybody ever tried a lifetime metal oil filter? does it protect the engine as good as paper?

Im not totally sure but i dont think your suppose to run full synthetic because of the yamaha having a wet clutch. Im not sure about amsoil but some fully synthetic oils you arnt suppose to run

Amsoil is safe to run in YFZ's or other wet clutch machines.

You can run synthetic oil in anything as long as the oil meets spec's. Rumors of it being too slippery etc are just that, BS.
JASO MA/MA2 is the spec for wet clutch type vehicles and Amsoil has several oils the meet that spec.
I see no need to jump from 10W-40 to 20W-50 in an ATV engine, especially if you are using Amsoil. Pick one viscosity and stay with it. 20W-50 is better suited for high HP engines or those that run hot, such as big H-D motorcycles.
I use the 0W-40 (AFF) in my ATV
