clanging in the starter gears

Ok, recently when we start the 90 (electric start) there is a loud clanging from the starter gear area , not a grinding. It does this at low rpms. I can feel and hear the large gear clanging. What do I need to do to fix this. It sounds very bad but hasn't affected performance.

Thanks,
Darrell

I replaced all the gears/parts of the starter and it has went away.

Thanks to Les at Extreme mini quads NW.

my sons 90 is doing the same thing. I found one of the little rollers in the starter wheel behind the variator laying in the bottom of the case. I reistalled it & the noise stopped, but it has returned. Is there something that holds them in that may be broken. The IPL shows possibly some sort of pin or spring???

Each opening has a slot in it. There should be a longer rod (still small) in the hole that has a small spring inside of it that T's into the other rod ( I say rod for better lack of words). So when the spring is in the rod and inserted into the hole, then you put the other (smaller rod) inserted up and down forming a T. The spring will keep the pressure. Be careful putting it back on, they come out easily.

PM me if you need more info.

We are planning on it. However the 90 is having some issues. I am pretty sure we will be there early Sat morning.
