does anybody know why some of the 400ex seats dont line up with the tank covers and some do? heres a pic of mine

No clue... sorry... Nice 400 though

You have to be sure that you get the notch under the seat to engage the rubber on the back of the tank when you're putting the seat/fender assembly back on.

idk mines comes up a bit short too. is that the original seat? i always thought they were black on the new style quads. but im not sure

Posted by: hondaking52

its a stock seat as far as i know and the seat pan is hooked on the tank notch and the two mid ones and the two back ones, and its an 02

mine does it as well..its very annoying..i figured when i get new plastics and seat it may fix that..but idk..if u figure something out be sure to let us know

Posted by: hondaking52

thts wat i thought to with the new plastics but to no sucess.... even got 2 new forward rubber things tht the seat slides into

Posted by: STUNTIN400EX

MINE DIDN'T START DOING THAT TILL THE RUBBER TAB UNDER THE SEAT WAS WORE. SHOULDN'T AFFECT ANYTHING JUST LOOKS FUNNY.

its just age. mine did the same. the plastic seat pan only has one place to mount on the tank and it just starts to flatten out after time and not meet.

Posted by: hondaking52

so would a new seat pan fix the prob or is it the tank?

Posted by: kodymx13

yes i think it would. but i just made a bigger thicker washer to go on the tank. it didnt do anything about the looks factor but it kept the seat latched down.

mines an 05 does the same.. my friend has an 07 and his is alot closer.. idk why it does that ..

It might be because you have the old style seat and the new plastics.

I think your quad would look alot better with a black seat to match the 05up plastics

Any chance the sub frame is bent down from a tumble? Just a thought it might make the seat pull up. Plastic fatigued were it hooks to the tank?

Hmmm

ya i thought tht to but wen i hold up the fenders with out latching them in and push forward it helps but not tht much, and the seat pan does show some signs of wear...

They all do it after time. I think its the weight of the rider sitting in the "v" of the seat and puts stress on the pan and thus causes the front to lift.

Kinda like this!!!!! \/\/\/\/\/\/

haha thts funny except i'm not sitting on the bike in the picture...

I think engine heat warps the plactic seat under it ,and you sitting on it while its hot bends plastic in that shape. just my opion .

hmmm thts an idea..

thanks for all of the answers guys!!
