Hey everyone, what all companies make front bumpers for the DRR? Is the Kasea bumper the same, what all bumpers inter change, I know the Apex does not.

Not many companies make the bumpers for the watercooled. I believe xfr and Rath are the only ones. PM me and I'll tell you were to get one.

Has anyone really had a issue with over heating? The Apexs have ran plates on their front bumpers for years, I've not seen any overheating issues.
So are these bumpers just a precautionary measure or is this a real issue?

To get just a little off topic. I have seen 2 Apex melt down running the plate in front of the radiator. Both same day. It is something that everyone trys to help out with at the track now when you see the "new guy" come in trying to run this way. We tried the number plate on the front of my sons DRR for the indoor series where it is cold(50*) for a few practice laps and it is noticeably warmer. I removed it right away. It does look like the XFR is a nice design. I don't think anyone other then Rath makes another one.

Ok cool, does anyone have a good picture of a Rath "Water Cooled" front bumper for the DRR/DRX ? I don't care too much for the XFR one, it looks like it is made of 1.5 aluminum bar ( Over Kill ), gotta save weight when ever possible imo.

My son's 08 DRX WC50 went about 15-20min w/ the plate centered on the stock bumper before the overheat light came on. I moved the plate to the side and had no issue. I am running the XFR with plate centered and no issue. The bumpers ram air works.

We run a Rath bumper on our w/c 50 and have had no issues after 2 races. PM me your e-mail add and I will send you a pic.

We have a Rath bumper on one of our kids installed it about 5 races ago no overheating what so ever JMO

The XFR bumper is only 1" OD, and weighs less than the stock bumper(less than 4 lbs). We have had some overheating issues with the # plate blocking air flow to the radiator , that is why XFR developed the new ram air bumper, and it works great .

Haven't seen the rath product, but I can't imagine anything nicer than xfr bumpers!

Rath claims to make a water cooled specific bumper but supplies no description of pictures, anyone know what the difference is between their water and air cooled bumpers?

The upper arms now bend up and over the radiator. Where on the air cooled models, it was ok to just run them straight back to the frame.

Please forgive me but I am still lost, how does the running the mounts over the radiator help ??

That is the only dif in the way it mounts which allows it to clear the radiator. I does nothing to assist in cooling. Rath told me they are looking into other ideas for that as the cooling is an issue on some with the center section blocked with a # plate. The XFR already has that covered and sloved the issue for me. It is a great quality bumper as well and lighter than stock.

On the up side it is a pretty cool bumper and solved the overheat issue i had. I have heard some say they overheat with the plate in the center and other have no issue. I would play it safe though and go with something designed to add air flow if you plan to run the plate in the center.

Do we have to run the plate in the center in the AMA/ATVA national events, I see the rules say we do but if you look at pictures on here from AMA/ATVA events not all do.
Never ran nationals so looking for all the info I can get.

Here's a pic of how we ran the MX National's last year w/o any questions. I used the "for Plastic" paint from Wal-mart then used black pinstripe around it. 3" numbers.
Of course this does not mean I won't get questioned this year though. But remember, MX Nationals use electronic timers.

the nose # that Rocky has pictured above may sneak by a couple of officials, but they will send you back to the trailer if they see no hard # plate attached to front bumper , it happened to one of my drivers last year at the Kentucky nationals(last year). Some Track officials are stricter than others , but I would be prepared , just in case.
Some machines may not get to hot with the # plate covering the radiator , but we race in 90 plus temps all summer , and if you have a hard driver and some pretty good jetting , the engine temps will rise . You can richen your jetting and get some cooling effect, but the bumpers will fix it all and look great, and save weight.

The 2007 AC came with liquid cooled bumpers. It was in 2006 when the upper mounting bars on the bumper went straight back. Be careful if you have a 2006 and doing the conversion. The upper mounting tabs for the bumper are located in a different place as well. Therefore, just buying a liquid cooled bumper will not help you. Believe me, I just ran into this issue with a recent build. I have a ton of pictures and will post the build in the next couple of days.

Here is what I had to do to a 2006 straight back bumper to make it work with the LC conversion.
