Suzuki LT Z90 Need More Speed

Just purchased the LT Z90(2007) for my son and it is very slow. much slower than his friends stock (2007) honda TRX 90.
I have back the throttle limiter all the way out, but have not take out the reduction nut. Will the removal of this nut make a great different in speed? will he beable to keep up with his friends? Is there any thing else I can do? or did I just get screwed at the dealership?

It's rumored that removing the limiter will make it go twice as fast.
