Hey looking at getting back into the sport and found an 04' yfz 450 reasonable. Are there updates that should be done or things to look for on this year or any year for that matter. I just don't want any surprises.

i got a 04, no probs. might want to put in a new decompression plug cuz it comes with a rubber one.

dude its your first post so i'll cut you some slack

but seriously....search!! there are TONS of threads on this

anyways...some have a charging problem, there's an update available or just get a new rectifier if you have problems ($25), there's an oil mod available as the wrist pin doesnt get proper lubrication, and its not and issue but not until 06 were they a true 449cc (04=439) also a few scattered complaints about the swinger and subframe (just replace with a 6 point sub if you want) but really you'll prolly be good as gold, ride happy
