ok i can't figure this out so anything you guys think of please throw it at me. i have a 54mm bore w/ 70 style big dome big valve head,and a 1mil copper gasket, w/ a high comp piston. i have pulled it epart 2x and the last time i decked the cyl and lapped the head. they are (or maybe were) flat, and again after 1 ride it is soo blown it's actually leaking oil never mind the smoke. it looks like a 2stk

Check the cylinder studs out GOOD.
Often times they will loosen up or strip the threads in the case. Usually from grinding the cases so close to the threads.
I have seen cases crack also in that same area.

thanks rob when i pull it back apart i will check that out. i got so sick of it i built a mod instead
