San Bernadino, CA (3/8/2008) - Chad Wienen led a trio of Team Rockstar/MSR/Pro Taper/Suzuki/Yoshimura quads in qualifying Saturday for tomorrow's Pro ATV race at Glen Helen Raceway. The event is the season opener for the ITP/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA ATV Championship Series Presented by Parts Unlimited.

Wienen's Suzuki teammates Dustin Wimmer and Doug Gust were second and third fastest, respectively. Can-Am riders Greg Gee and John Natalie, Jr. completed the top five.

The Glen Helen event continues tomorrow with the first moto scheduled for 1 p.m. PDT, followed by the second moto at 3 p.m. PDT.

LCQ winner was Nate Morello. He finished in dramatic fashion as his shock bolts fell out while crossing the finish line, he was rear ended by John Ragon. He's OK after being flipped over by the hit.

Track is great shape, similar to last year. The wind is blowing strong at about 30 mph.

Wienen had the fastest 3 qualifiers which is a very impressive sweep.

Got this from another site - Cody Miller

and is in the hospital....so he is not racing this weekend....once
he gets back home they are going in for more tests.

I am pretty sure most of them are... it will be an interesting year and I think Wimmer or Weinen will be on top, both series

Kory was there doin his job...Managing team MSR Yoshi Suzuki

Upperman was in Georgia where I was at, with Dustin Royer (Pro AM) if anyone cares to know. He raced pro, and was about dead last off the line, only beat Jenks and Lagzdins to the second corner because they flipped halfway to it.

Ok guys, please stop with the Joe Byrd Bashing because it takes away from the coverage, and I don't want to see anyone bashing any racers regardless of the circumstance.

Excellent post. I agree, negative comments toward anyone get one nowhere. Dennis in West TN

Josh ran strong both moto's on a rough track. We expect Josh to run strong all year with his new conditioning he won't have any more strong starts and fading moto's. Were confident Josh will see many more podiums this year.

I have like Josh since I saw his interview in DirtWheels when he rode for K&K. He seemed like a pretty well down to earth guy and I like his attitude, ATV racing needs people like him, Natalie, Chad, Gust, Cale Downen, they bring intensity but will a shot of laughter... makes it more appealing to general public

Has there been any news on Cody millers condition?

I agree. I know Joe and he is the most professional and dedicated racer I have met. If you guys look at the race report you will notice that Joe was doing quite well before a flat tire slowed him up and was leading the second moto before having motor problems. If you look back to last year, Joe dominated the WPSA guys when they raced in the AMA series. Now that there arent any conflicting dates and it looks like most of the guys are racing both series we will see who is the best. My bet is on Joe battling for another championship with Wimmer, Natalie, and Wienen right there as well.

Yeah, LT80, What dooo you know about this sport...LMAO....Where's TNT when you need him?

Posted by: P. Gozinya

While I agree the Joe Byrd bashing takes away from the coverage, the race is over and "If the shoe fits"..... and if the readers/subscribers want to talk about it....let them. facts are facts. Joe Byrd has in the past shown his lack of integrity/ ethics on numorous occassions. Ask the race officials, series coordinators, his peers, fans in the stands, and don forget Heather.

Posted by: P. Gozinya

Just so nobody gets on my case about the "Heather" portion, I have met Heather on a few occassions and talked to many people in the industry. I have yet to hear anything but loving and supportive comments about her. she is and will always be a class act. She is a crowd/fan favorite and my 6 year old daughters ATV hero. She always takes the time to talk to her fans and is wonderful with the kids... We all love you Heather and we missed you at Glen Helen.....

Posted by: vzmain61

I would say that you will see some great racing in pro ama and pro wpsa. You got the rivalry of Byrd and Natalie....The Suzuki team and Pat Brown. The other pros really dont get the exposure they should but I think this year may be a breakout year for some underdogs. Be on the lookout for a privateer rolling in with a Big Rig....he will be hauling a$# this year.

Posted by: maticus

which guy would that be?

Where was Heather??? It's kind of funny that she wasn't there supporting her man......

Posted by: P. Gozinya

Heather and Joe are not together anymore. I did not get an "Official" answer as to why Heather didnt show. As usual Joe hid in his trailer all day and refused to talk to anyone. i can not confirm but the rumor around the races was that Joe had a new, VERY young girlfriend that may be a rider on his team.......Again and just like always joe was nowhere to be found to answer any questions ........

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: quadnana7

Has everyone forgotten who gave Joe a run for the championship last year Jeremy Lawson AKA THE LAWDOG and all the other great racers who ran the ATVA Nationals. There are great riders from both series and on any given day any one of them could win, a lot of things can happen in a race that has nothing to do with who is the best ,mechanical problems, just plan bad luck, getting stuck in a pile up, anything. It will be great having most of the Pros Back at the National . Our family loves to see full gates and even qualifing. The more the merrier. All I am saying is all the Pros deserve a congradulations because stayin on that track for over 20 minutes is tough on anyone. My hat goes off to all Pros you are a inspiration to all the youth riders.
This is just my 2 cents

Posted by: maticus

well said quadnana, and im going to a national this year so my goal now is going to be to talk to joe. but not about who his girl friend is or why him and his wife split ( which i would stay in my trailer too if people were going to be bugging me about stuff like that) or maybe he stays in his trailer cause thats the way he gets pumped up or calms down after the race?
