But why do people block off their parking brake? Is there a gain somewhere from doing so?

you dont really gain anything, but they arent really necessary cause the ones on 400exs suck and youd usually be ok just putting it in gear. if you take the parking brake off get a block off so you dont get stuff in your brakes.

jesseweaver basically nailed it. in order for the parking break to actually work on 400ex's, you need to have it in such an adjustment, that the brakes will drag even when its not set.

Yeah I do agree that the design sucks. I just wasn't sure about this one. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

it also just clears up a bit of clutter and would be used for aftermarket clutch asseblies and such where they do not have a parking brake

This is basically it. To use it it has to drag, and then you go through brake pads like candy. You can pay $7 for a blockoff, and save yourself money from pads in the long run. It also looks better and, saves you a little weight, not that it is much.

Just $7!! If it makes your brakes wear out so fast I guess i'll try to scrounge up a few dollars and get one hehe

The time it takes me to actually get the parking brake to work, it's usually faster to go get a rock or stick and put it in front of the wheels.

JUST BUY THE BLOCK OFF PLATE. ONCE YOUR READY TO GET A SET OF AFTERMARKET LEVERS YOU WILL ALREADY HAVE IT DONE. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE THAT DOESN'T REQUIRE GRINDING.
