Watchout 400ex'rs for the new trx250r

The new honda trx250r fourstroke is coming out and is going to have 21-25 horsepower stock. Its a kickstart with liquid cooling and gas resovior shocks from the factory. AND its going to be very light, this thing is going to compete with the 400ex that has 27 stock horsepower, air cooled 365 pound and no gas shocks...what do you guys think

I thought suzuki was going to make a liquid cooled 250 version of the ltr450? Using an engine like the RMZ250 engine. It would be really nice if they would because then kids that are coming up through the ranks get used the power before going to a 450. It would have more power than any of the 250 4-strokes. It would be like a 400 but not quite..

Suzuki and KTM have 250 race quads prototyped and are testing them as we speak. Yes there will be 250 size race quads very soon. there gonna have too since the ama is making a pro atv lites class just like the dirtbikes.

Hopefully other companies arent to far behind.

ITs only a matter of time before honda has to do something with a 250. If you have ever riden a 250ex and a 250 raptor its night and day. The raptor makes the 250ex seem ike a turd.

Interesting thread, leads to lots of fun "predictions"

Based on past history Honda will probably make a 250 "R" class ATV, BUT I highly doubt the 250EX "cash cow" will go away very soon. It is their entry level sport quad and they know better than to not have one of those to groom future Quad riders.

My guess would be a 250R released while still selling the 250EX. Then the 250R will evolve in a few years to have a sibling called the 250XX, a trail/fun quad.

I am looking forward to the future "XX" versions. Think how recently Honda comes out with an "R" series and then has a spinoff "X" model. Ala 250X, 450X.

While I love my 400EX, I know in a just a few short years it will be replaced with a 450XX Sport Quad as their recreational/trail quad to mirror the current CRF450R/450X and CRF250R/250X configurations. Depending on the success (and more so the acceptance) I could also envision an IRS 450XX.

I can already tell Honda is going to latch on to the "XX" designation for the "recreational" Sport Quads. Afterall it is double of the X version for the bikes, think X for 2 wheels and XX for 4 wheels. Makes perfect sense when you think about it. You can see a hint of their future marketing plans of the "XX" designation by watching the video of the 700XX on their website.

Just like the legenday XR series has slowly been replaced, the era of the "EX" series is moving towards it end.

2-3 years from now remember where you heard this first :-)

The Suzuki 1 looks amazing!!! Its like an exact replica almost of the LTR450 except its a 250. I havent seen the KTM 1 yet.

From what I can tell from that photo it looks to have 450R style bodywork... you gotta ask yourself... will a future model have older bodywork like that or the newer edgier stlye like the 08 400 and/or something even more modern/aggressive.??

Had they photoshoped the 08400 Bodywork on it I might have fallen for it.

Speaking of "prototypes" to heck with 250s, I wish Honda would build this one... the TRX650R that has been tooling around in the desert races.. and even winning some.

If you haven't ridden an "uncorked" HRC prepped XR650R you have missed out, love that motor!!

Well honda and yamaha are gonna have to do something soon. How can there be a ama pro atv lites class and no model atv to run in it? Like i said Suzuki and KTM have 250 race machines prototyped and are being tested now. they will be out soon. Its just a matter of time.

haha its not fake, the only reason its not out is because there testing the frames on which one they like. BUT, lets say it is fake, suzuki is most definatley building a ltr250 which will have the same amount of power, which will be fuel injected-liquid cooled and gas shocks all around. But honda is making one and if I'm right you all know pretty well that im going to rub it in. and also they might call it the trx250xx like 08400ex said. orrrr How about we all screw quads and ride one of these:

Honda doesnt have a choice they need to build a 250 race quad soon for the ama pro atv lites class. I hear the KTM 250 race machine is pretty badass.

I wouldnt be suprised if the ltr250 quad racer is out next year.

Well I don't know just yet what it's like to ride and uncorked 650r, but hopefully by summer I will! Building a 650ex as we speak.....

No joke! That would be a scary sick 3wheeler! Some guy over on 3wheelerworld.com built a Yammie 3wheeler that looked like that, it was so good looking that I thought it was shopped, but he had pictures of it at Trikefest last year with other guys.

COOL, keep us posted!! Are you using the monster XR650R motor (water cooled) or the XR650L air cooled motor?

My last XR650R was the only bike out of a few dozen I have owned that I regret selling! I was lucky enough to get it tagged and titled back them.. much harder to do these days. Even with knobbies that thing would embarrass most Sportbikes on some of the very tight curvy roads in my area :-)

Its not a joke Suzuki has been planning this and refining the Quadracer LTR250 for years now. It really wont surprise me if they produce this and then having other companies to the same.

It's much more then the 50+ peak HP.

Its the broad torque curve that it makes. Mine had power from off idle all the way up, no waiting for the upper rpms for the rush. It was there all the time at any rpm! That powerband would (will) be incredible in a quad!! Plus the sound that 650 single makes is magic!

You should start another thread and Post progress pics... NOW!!! :-)

For arguments sake, If they are starting an atv lites class- Would you be able to race an older 250r (2 stroke)? If so Id think that would be what a lot of people would do. how would they fare against these new(maybe) 250s? Just curious

I only seen a pic of the left side, it does have a left side exhaust

I did notice the trx450r did well, one of the fastest in the drags and had the most low end torque, the only knocks on it was........

1. out dated plastic
(fenders on the other 6 are almost identical, give me originality)
2. no reverse
(not even half of the 450s have it, its a racer not a ute)

ohh and the picture of the 450r tipping? check his body position
(looks like he is trying to bicycle it)

if the price tag is as high as they claim ($6,200.00)
it better be something special

i don't think the 250r is dirt wheels' april fools joke. they had another article in there that was a joke. they, almost admitted it was a photochop, as they don't have any actual pics. they are going off of speculation for the article and this is what they feel it may be like. the article was not specifically on the "250r", but on why there may or may not be that class created. it was a good article and shed some light on the possibility of a future for that class.

First off, every April's Fools joke, if on the cover, look in the mag, on page 16. In 2002 they had the 750EX prank, and yes, it was on the cover. There always on the cover, so tons of people read them! I have seen afew others, and there on the cover too.

As I was in the car today for several hours, I brought my DirtWheels along, and I couldn't help myself, but to just stare at the "250R" for something, anything, to prove that I am right. I think I just found a little something. With all of you that have the newest DirtWheels, (Man having a subscripion is nice!) Look at the pipe. It shows the pipe on the left side (looking from the back) and All honda's have there pipe on the right side. But thats not all. If you look even closer at the pipe, it shows the midpipe comming down, but it stops, and if you look at the motor, it has the head pipe comming out and around the right side of the motor. One more little thing. Look at the pipe again. Now look right behind that. What do you see? A battery! They arn't going to have a battery and the pipe on the same side! It looks like they found or made a pipe, and just stuck it over there infount of the battery. And now, look in the front. It has no oil tank. Look at the bottom of the front plastics, see all the bolts, would that be a pain to take on and off? And look at the bottom bolt (the the "250," that doesn't say 250R like all Honda's have 250EX, 400EX 450R 700XX on the side.) there isn't anything to bolt that bolt on to. And it has that tiny tiny dirtbike shifter.

Oh! I was just looking at it again, and it has 450R shocks! Hmmm..
Also, it looks like it has a 400ex frame upfront, but the brake is "dirtbike stylied." And, the front is that nasty Honda Grey/Silver colored frame. One more thing, (I think.....) Look at the subframe and follow that bar down, it passes the plastic to the frame, but it doesn't attach with any bolts or anything, and if you look right above it, it shows another post/stem/pipe or w/e coming up/back but it stops right after the plastic.. Makes me wonder.....

So, A "new 250R" thats not on the Honda site. It has the pipe on the wrong side, over the battery. It also has the 450R shocks, dirtbike frame and CRF front plastics. I also wonder why there is only 1 picture?! Maybe they didn't want to goof up there photoshop work and not do the samething twice, or where they too lazy?

I'll admit, it was a great job, and 1,000,000% better than I could ever do, but I think its there prank.

YEAHHH THE JOKE IS ON PAGE 24 THE WAL-MART BRINGS BACK A NEW AND IMPROVED BIG WHEEL FOR GROWN UP KIDS!!!!! osoo that means the 250r four stroke is realllll HAHAAAAAA... the 450r looking shocks are real there putting shocks almsot identical to the 450r on there and there shouldnt be a battery on this quad theres none on the dirtbikes..

theres another youth production class, max 200cc two stroke and 300cc four stroke its a very popular class and the new high performance 250 will be a huge hit. But i now start to hear alot that honda does not support their factory riders at all.

Good video! Talk about crazy 3wheelers... I loved the CBR900RR wanna-be, talk about lazy. I mean, it looked like a motorcycle with 2 wheels in the back... pretty fast though... The YZF trike was sick too, I think he would have gotten spanked by a decent 250R, the one he was up with looked pretty whooped and ratty... Good times for sure though!

wow brauap you are think way to much about this. i know all the companys will have these in the next 2 years bc everybody is talking about these in forums just like this. i am 99% sure thats not a real quad i think they just wanted you to get the idea. i think i would consider buying one of these if they made them bc you could make a easy 40+hp if they start in the low 30's unless they sqeez all the power out they can to make that low 30's hp but i doubt it. they need this quad! i am sure all the companys have a prototype of a 250 4 stroke and i'm sure ktm will make the best one (sorry but it's true) there 450 is amazing and thats there first one! if i had the cash there would be one in my shed right now but i don't have the cash

i think if ktm made a 250 4 stroke with full ohlins and everything like on all there stuff and made it as wide as the 450's then it would be #1 with me. JAKE OUT!!!!!!
