Using oil but not smoking..Help!!

Hey, my problem is that my 02 400ex is using oil. It doesnt smoke at all though. Is it from riding to many wheelies. Thanks.

the dipstick..i changed the oil about 4 weeks ago and now it barly shows up on the bottom

Are you warming the engine for 3-5 minutes (depending upon temperature) before checking the oil level? If you are checking it cold it will read low weather it is or not due to the oil in the tank draining back into the engine.

do you have a leak? is there any in your exhaust pipe?

i just got done driving it tonight..oiled the chain and then checked the oil. there are no leaks im aware of and there is no oil whats so ever in the pipe.

I dont mean to take over your thread, but i have a question. Ok, i looked in my exhaust and it has like "black residue" and if i wipe it, it comes off easally. Is it suppose to be in there? is it burning oil? Should i wipe all of it out?

NO THE BLACK "SOOT" IS NORMAL. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF HE WAS GETTING SOME BLOW BY WHICH WOULD HAVE NARROWED HIS PROBLEM A BIT. AS LONG AS IT IS DRY BLACK STUFF ALL IS WELL.

If you finished riding and it was cold and at night, and then you oiled chain, it is possible the engine cooled off in that time.

I know this sounds dumb, but make sure the engine is warm or it will read low.
