What combo is the best for MX on an 08 DRX50.
Posted by: howmuchnow
depends on the track. you will run different sprockets on different tracks

Agreed. howmuchnow said it right.

What can I expect with a 17f 32r combo?

A ton of bottom end.... We use 20/31 (on open tracks), and 20/32 (tight tracks). Remember, Adding one tooth on the front is like subtracting 3 on the rear. JR

does this bike have the new tranny gears(high ratio) ? what rear tire ?

It has the new gears (hardened) I believe. I am running Snow hogs now. It came with Maxxis Cross orig.

In our experience, when replacing the tranny gears with the hardend, we went from 19/35 stock to 18/35. This made the gearing as close to stock before the tranny change that we could find.

the 18/35 should be close , depending on the drivers skill level , a 17 / 35 might work better , a little more punch from the bottom.

How do I determine what gears I have. By the way thanks for the service Marc.
Ive read further and assume they would have to be aftermarket not a new stock thing?

/Yes they are a new stock thing but only on the latest 08" version, models having the new gear ratio , they all came with rear razor cross tires, so far, the dealer would know for sure.
glad to help quadscrib.

I hate it when theres updates AFTER I make a prchase..lol ours is an 08 but has the throwaways....so not the "hot new setup" lol

So what was the stock set-up (sprocket sizes) prior to the hardened gears and new gear ratio?
Posted by: hotquads1
19/32 would be stock sprokets

thanks for the correction. Don't know what I was thinking. we went from 19/32 to 18/32 not 35
thanks for the eyes

I'm running 17 & 32 with the new gears / snow hogs and seems pretty good.
