Well, we've just gotton our (My step son Oliver's) 08 drx 50 l/c and besides nerf bars the first thing we're gonna do is 16 snow hogs on the rear.
What should I be looking at as far as gearing goes at least to start, or is the preasent gearing good w/ the 16"?????
Well be doing outdoor racing and I do realize that my needs will likely change but whats a good baseline?
I have several questions but I dont want to flood the board here either.

I can't help you with 16" tires because unless your on a track
with no rutts your boy will get hung and someone will have to help him get back on his way...

On the other hand we run 18" r/a shredder's and a 32 tooth
sprocket which seem's to be an all around good choice

diffrent tracks require diffrent gearing short tracks 1 tooth up
longer tracks 1 or 2 teeth down... hope this helps

I agree with JIM. The 16" seems to hang up in ruts. We run the 18's on our 90cc and stock with the 50cc due to rules. And each track is different.

Our recomendation:

16" Snow Hogs 19 x 30
18" Snow Hogs 19 x 32

The 16" tires do have a tendency to get you stuck in the ruts, but really there is only 1" of different bewteen the 2 tires, not 2" as it would seem.

bulldog is write the tires are not what they seem. The 18"
tires only mesure 16 3/4" and the 16s were about 3/4" smaller.
We run 18" tires and 19/31

Seems here so far that I havn't notice ruts being an issue on our mini tracks (district 14) but I guess I didnt realize that there are 18" Snow Hogs mabey their width makes them appear smaller when I see them on mini quads.
Overall what is the more popular rear sized? 16" or 18" Keep in mind on a 50?
Also thanx for the gearing suggestions .

Most of us run 18' snow hogs on 50 70 and 90's and a few are running the 18' rzr thats on the 08's.

but the rzr is a little larger than the hog and you will need to gear down for that.

i use to run the 16' hog but spent more time getting him unstuck than anything.

run the 18 with a drr pro wheel.

Seems Ive been mistaking the 18"ers for 16"ers... I race MX as well and 18" Holeshots or whatnot are a huge difference on my YFZ than the 18" Snowhogs....
Thanx Guys! 18" it is!!
