working on wifes freinds blaster that quit running and don't know year and don't know where to look. any help would be great!

found vin and last 2 numbers are 94, not sure if thats it.

the last digits are the numbers identifying your quad. the first letters/numbers are the ones you want. Do you have a Clymers manual, as the serial numbers by years are in it. If not i can look at my clymers and give you an answer later 2nite.

Yamaha uses the 10th digit in the vin to indicate the year model
First vin # is a V year model 1997, #2 is an M 1991 & the third is an R 1994
First year for the Yamaha blaster was late 1987 & some said they only came out in 88, but I had a 87 model.

BTW, you're not the first person to say they had a 1987 Blaster. My boss swears he had an '87. Who am i to doubt w/o facts.
