Took my first trip to Dumont last weekend. Here are some pictures:
It wasn't very busy. Lots of room between camps.

That's our camp in the center.

With no wind and some moisture in the sand it got rutted-up pretty fast.

20+ year old ATC suspension does a number on your body through the rough stuff. Still fast and fun though...

The 500 is a lot smoother over the chop....

My friend's friend has one big stink'n truck. It's a Ford F650....

Check out this Polaris RangerRZR that crashed near our camp. The idiot driver launched--and I mean LAUNCHED--off a dune lip. I didn't see it happen but others said he got way more air than any side-by-side has business getting. He landed nose first straight into the sand and then proceeded to flip forward several times. Luckily there were no serious injuries. But the RZR was jacked up. The whole thing was twisted....

So, that's it! It was a fun weekend. But at 7 or 7.5 hours away, I found little reason to go there when Glamis and all the other ISDRA spots are 4 hours or even less.

Bakersfield spores? What's that? Could that be a pseudonym the fungal infection known as Valley Fever?
If so, I personally wouldn't be concerned unless there was an official warning from a government health organization or some other similarly credible source. As I understand it, most people that contract Valley Fever (from breathing in a certain fugal spore churned out of desert soils) never even know it because they have zero symptoms. Your body deals with it on its own like so many other things floating around in the air any you're none the wiser. Some smaller percentage get flu-like symptoms for a few weeks. And some tiny percentage that contract Valley Fever take many many months to recover and require medical treatment.
I figure I've breathed in enough desert dust through the years that if I was going to contract it AND I was one of the few that can't naturally defeat it without medical care, it would have already happened. Maybe that's naive, I don't know. I suppose one could wear a dust mask if Valley Fever was a concern. Actually, I don't know if that would even help but I bet it would.

its kinda like that brain eating thing that killed a few people in the lakes here in AZ... it wasnt enough to keep me from going wakeboarding...
the way i see it, when its your time to go, its your time to go...
