2003 Foreman450 4x4 problems!

My dad has a 2003 Foreman 450ES with the in and out 4wd switch on the thumb throttle. It does not want to go into 4wd. The electric motor on front of the motor that engages the 4wd works. I took it off and inspected it and then greased it. My guess is that something is broke or some splines are stripped. It does not make any odd noises at all. I was woundering if anyone else had this problem or if they could help me out. Thanks
