Save yourself the money, time, and physical pounding and just buy a 450 if you're going to run mx.

X2. With the light weight 450's and their unbelieveable power for displacement you cant beat them

I agree with the above and I own a 700, a YFZ and an LT-R the rappy's a sweet duner and desert racer but cant touch the 450's on mx!

yah my buddies told me that they were heavy for mx.
Posted by: 01probchild660
the raptor is more of a trail bike. It can be used for motocross but its a good 50lbs heavier than the yfz450r, and has appx. the same amount of power. Do your research on the 450's tho. the yfz has a nickel plated cylinder and when it blows it cost BIG money... Ive heard of guys actually just buyin aftermarket cylinders because it cost so much to get it replated..... But if your lookin to race money is the biggest part!!!!! Id stay away from the raptor as a motocross bike. go with the yamaha 450 or hondas 450r

the 700 has a plated cylinder too. when mine wore out i had it replaced w/ a steel sleeve thats boreable.
I plan to do the same thing to my yfz if and when the cylinder wears out.
Id take the 700 over the yfz in the woods most anyday but on the track yfz all day.
I have both bikes and have tired them in each situation a few times

how did you wear your cylinder out?

tons of hard hours
When i first bought I was laid off and so was my buddy that just got one. We rode almost everyday all day lol.
We probably put more hours on them then most 86 250r's have their whole life
I always changed the oil every 4 or 5 tanks of gas and cleaned the airfilter . It never stopped running just puffed some smoke so i tore it done to hone and re ring and noticed the exhaust side of cylinder and the nikasil wore through.
I have had the steel sleeve since summer and have put well over 30 hrs on it probably alot more and havent had a problem yet.
Nikasil is expensive and w/ the sleeve i have the option to bore a few times at $40 compared to price of new cylinder or coating .
There is a guy that gave me plenty of good reasons on the raptor forum Bo "velociraptor to go w/ the sleeve, and i promised to test it out for him. I'm happy w/ it. Bike actually runs cooler now than it did stock (i have a fuel controller now also though which gives it more fuel for the mods) I was stock when i wore the cylinder out. Did a little buildup while it was down

Here's an old pic. I'll try and throw up some new shots when I get home from work. I'm in NE Ohio as well, where are you at?
Posted by: mxraptor149
I can't believe no one else has a set up raptor.

One more. These are all old shots.

im just north of youngstown. Ive seen a few raptors at the mx tracks but few and far between. Im running the cra harescrambles w/ mine. It feels more at home in the woods lol.

I've got Razrs and full skids I throw on mine for trail riding and the Rumble on the Ridge. I lived in Youngstown for a few years. Where are you at? There is a sweet motocross track visible from the Turnpike near Lordstown that I've been trying to track down the owner. Where do you ride?
Posted by: f4istunna
ya i saw that track for the first timeon my way to cleveland last month.
Were going to wellsville tomorrow if your up for a ride???

Sweet raptor by the way! but do you guys see how high the quad sits and how big it is thats why its not a track quad.but great trail quad!
Posted by: mxraptor149
Yeah, I agree it's not the best MX quad. But I don't have the good fortune to own two quads; one for MX and one for the woods. So I've got to compromise until I can sell it.
Here's an action shot.

Another one from Pymatuning Holeshot Raceway in northwestern PA.
Posted by: mxraptor149
Mine does quite well on the track despite it's weight. But everything has been replaced with aftermarket parts to try and reduce weight.
Posted by: mxraptor149
I still manage to beat 450s

How about this Raptor?
Posted by: spanky101
i want to say dirtwheels did a shootout between the 450 and 700 and surprisingly the700 was only a couple seconds slower timed wise... The 700 is a great all around bike, its definatly not the best mx'er but it can be a very well rounded bike and use it for many different things. Haha and im glad to see so many NE Ohio guys in here, i am living in austintown, right outside of youngstown right now. But too bad im quadless for now.
