so i just put my motor back in and started it for the first time.(440 kit) after about a minute of around 2000 rpm the header pipe starts to glow red. my jets are all stock except for a 168 main. do it need to adjust the valves, or what?

glowing headers is supposed to be lean. when i used to drag race late at night/ early in the morning on the powerlines up this dune after riding to the dune and racing once everyones headers would glow bright orange. but only reving around 2k something is up.

Was the quad sitting still while holding the RPMS up?

ya

It might just of got hot since there wasn't a flow of air. Ride it and see if it does the same thing. If it does bump your main jet up a couple sizes.

Just sitting and reving it will get much hotter than actually riding at the same rpm.
At 2000 rpm I don't think you're even getting into the main jet circuit.

you need to go to a 42 pilot and move the clip down on notch on the needle. Stock is way lean on a 440

What drew said, and also, If you put a new exhaust system on it, then it may need to build up some carbon before it will stop doing that.
The first time I ever started my 440, I had a brand ney Yoshi, and the head pipe glowed for maybe the first 4 or 5 times I rode after that. After it got some carbon built up, I guess it kept it cooler or something.
