if my four wheeler is clicking and it is running still like a champ would it hurt to ride it even though idk if it a piston slap or some other problem?

Could just need a valve adjustment... I would check it out before riding it too much or you could do some expensive damage.

the valves on the ex are alittle noisey could be that. but where is the clicking coming from?

400EX's will always click brand new or old
even if you adjust the valves it will still click
not a problem unless it is realy loud

aftermarket cams make it tick louded but yeah all 400ex will tick

Mine is extremely loud.

Billet cam w/ hardfaced rockers. I get alot of people who ask me if something is wrong with my engine. Lol, I tell them its about to blow up, and do they wanna race for 50 bucks?

well i adjusted my valves but it still clicked so i brought it to a local guy that lives at the dunes and knows everything and he said it was just fine. I just bought this four wheeler and i just every know and then find out exactly whats all in it.lol its weird i didnt even know i had a cam in it and for a little while i didnt know it was bored to a 440 i always though it was to a 416 until i raced a guy and smoked him.lol but i think i about know everything thats in it so thank everyone for the advise.lol

if it still makes lots of clicking after you adjusted the valves you might want to check you timing chain adjuster..I had this problem..tightned my valves and it still made lots of noise..so i pulled the right rear valve cover off and stuck a long skinny driver and moved the timing chain way more than i thought it should move..so i pulled the tensioner and it was broke..then i found out its pretty common for the 400ex to have the tensioner break

Posted by: kdoe400ex

nope the tensioner is good the guy that looked at it took it for like too days and tore it all down and found nothing wrong thats just its normal clicking so idk if something goes wrong and i blow it up i guess ill move up to a 450r lol!
