my 2000 ex started to smoke right after last oil change. Quad sat overnight draining oil. Smoke seems to go away while riding. Valve seals? If so does the head have to come off to replace them?

probably new piston and bore

I've asked this a couple times and it is most likely moisture burning off from the exhaust. mine does this after an oil change also.
edit since I saw the year of your quad unless you've never had them replaced it could be worn piston rings. But often smoking on start up after a quad has been sitting a while is from valve guides/seats. Oil leaks down into the cylinder and smokes a bit until the oil burns.
also the smoke I experience is white, just make sure yours is white, if its bluish white its burning oil.

thanks for the heads up. top end was done over last winter. I will run it for a bit to see if the smoke stops, if not must be the valve seals.
