I have a 250ex now but im looking for more power on the trails. Do you think a 450r would be good, or is a 400ex a better option?

i wouldnt do rought trail with a stock 450R ! you gonna need to lower your sprocket because 1th gear is too long! but you gonna loose on top end!
but for 'normal' trail you would be happy!!

I love my '05 450R on the trails. I'm 6'3" and 235lbs and it handles the trails with me just fine.

Ditto, its just trail ripping. My son has a 250ex & he's gonna be moving to the 450R like the rest of us. The dif is reverse & you budget. Get what works for you & ride.

I'd agree with (mcleod) on this one. I'd like to lower my front sprocket a tooth.

I dont agree. I find you just have to clutch more is all. I ran stock gearing for the first 3 years I had my 04. I know went to 15/37 gearing with my 18's since I ride at the track more than trail riding now.
I do still have my 416ex for trails and I do find that is better on the trails. but I can ride both n/p. Just have to get used to it is all.

clutching and using friction point all the time is not the best way to have plaisure when riding.

I geared mine down and have been very satisfied with the results. I ride on some trails that are rough and rocky and it's easier to pick my way through now instead of constantly riding the clutch. We also have flat out smooth trails and I still have enough top end to stay in front so all is good.

turn your idle up about half a turn and go down a tooth on the front sprocket and you can't beat it...my first investment would be a swingarm skid tho..

I bought an 07 this year, and i ride a lot of woods. On the stock machine i agree, buy a 12 Tooth sprocket(they come with a 13 on the 06-07). Then save up for an HRC kit, Honda calls it a power up kit, put your 13T back on, and enjoy
