Old LT50 petcock question

I took the petcock off my daughter's 1986 lt50 and cleaned it up. I put it back together and have a leak at the vacuum thingy. So, I will take it apart and try and get it to seal up there. It would only run at mid to high throttle.

Can you run a regular petcock on these quads or do they need to have the vacuum petcock?
