question for you experts out there. in the waterpump, there is a thin metal plate that goes in between the clutch cover and the water pump cover causing the need for 2 gaskets. is there any benefit to taking the plate out? ive been told it moves more water with it out, improving cooling. just wondering what you think. thanks, Corey

I just put mine all back together and have the same plate (I think the 88-89's came with it) I figure it helps keep the water where the blades of the pump are so that it can be pushed forward into the system and not letting any water just sit there in the water pump cover (even though its a small area im sure it creates turbulance disrupting the flow)..
Id keep it in there

Honestly, if the engineers thought the impeller moved coolant well enough without the plate why would they design one?
I'd leave it.
