Ins and outs of cam mod

I am going to do the cam mod to my quad, I am just curious what the ups and downs are. If anyone has any pointers, I will gladly take them.
As I understand it, it sets the YFZ's to the YZ (dirt bike) engines specs, right? Does it make the exhaust valves open sooner or later, and what is the advantage of this?
Also, I was told that this mod is good for 8 horses, is this true?
Thanks in advance,

8 HP is blowing it waaaay out of proportion. It's worth it if you want a more aggresive powerband and don't mind having your arms tugged off. Mine was an absolute powerhouse after I did the cam mod, threw on a slip-on pipe, and an aftermarket intake. I ended up putting the cam back to stock because it was way too aggressive and gave me too much arm pump.
