Well I took the KFX80 out to tha sand and we were at 5000 feet or so and it wouldnt idle so she keep having to restart it and she said it died then wouldnt start, when I try to start it I can hear the starter turn but it isnt turning over the motor I dont know where to start looking ? if a starter is something that goes out or if I should take it apart and see if the motor locked up. Jack need some help again

Hmmm, this is where the pull start comes in handy.
See if the motor is free and if the starter is turning the motor over.
This could just be the starter.
If the motor is spinning with the starter,a compression test is in order.

The motor is not turning over it sounds like the starter is but there is no drag sound at all comeing from the electric motor. and yes I'm sure I spled that wrong I drive a truck.lol sorry

Lets double check.. Remove the spark plug and see if the piston is going up/down or is stuck.

that deal in my hand is making the buzz noise. I still havent got time to get into it. I was going to order a pull starter for it anyone know what year came with the pull start?I'm thinking it needs a new electric starter. every time she would stop it would die at the hi elevation then she would crank on the starter then it would die and start it again.

it could be just the relay bad, have someone with a meter check it. i was told they sold the pull starters in canada, not sure if thats true.

Hi, Ive got the exact same problem. Did the starter fix it? I tried a new relay and got the same out come. I'm thinking wiring or a bad starter and I'm leaning towards the starter. Thanks for any any info you have in advance.

There were no pull starts provided on LT80's any year..
Gotta buy em.
$75 or so if I remember correct.
So was the piston stuck?

Who sells a pull starter?
Posted by: freundly
They are always on ebay. do search for LT80 & several will come up.
see if this link works: http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...pull&category0=

Right on, thanks. I wasn't thinking about ebay. But it looks like the best place to get one. I guess I should get an e-start while I'm at. I'm pretty sure these symptoms are a bad starter since the relay is good. Thanks again!

If the engine loses compression, you will not hear any drag on the starter. On a two-stroke engine, the first sign of low compression is not wanting to idle. If you keep running, it eventually dies and won't start. This just happened to our lt80 a few months ago.
You may want to listen to LT80 before buying other parts and check to see if the piston is moving up and down in the cylinder.

Yeah, that makes sense. My Lt80 ran and idled great then just would not start. You press the start button and the relay makes that buzzing sound. How the do you check the compression w/o a way to turn the engine over?

Well her kfx80 still runs like a champ it seams that someone over looked the battery.lol put a charger on it and started right up took it off and same thing as b4
