when installing the copper head gasket,do you pull out the rubber o-ring and place the copper gasket so the groove is down where the o-ring would have been?Or do you leave the rubber o-ring and place the gasket on top of the o-ring so it sits in the groove of the copper gasket?

Why are you installing a copper head gasket?

Leaving the o-ring in place won't hurt anything.

It came with the new piston and rings from Hetrick Racing.

Use only the o-ring and not the copper gasket. The copper gasket is for an air cooled motor.
