not sure how plugging the snorkel hole in the airbox gives more hp, if youre cutting the air supply. i'm getting my 450 carb next week, and contemplating leaving the snorkel on.

exactly what i'm thinking. a couple threads on here, guys sounded like removing the snorkel gives more hp.
i run with no lid, if removing the snorkel will neither hurt nor help power, ill remove it, just cuz its in the way.

i put my bike on a "diet" and that was 1 of the first things to go. it supposed to get you "clean" air... lol isnt that why i clean my filter? to answer your question... if u dont have a lid on then get ride of it.

The main reason for removing the snorkel is, after removing your air box lid, it is not needed. It gives your bike a cleaner look. And you should plug that hole, that the snorkel came out of. I don't like the idea of the hot air coming off the engine going into air box. I don't know if it makes a difference, but it takes two seconds to plug the hole. And one less place for dirt to get to my air filter.

plugged the hole with a black spray paint can lid.. worked great

if its of no gain, i'll remove it. and of course plug it.

I removed the snorkel and plugged the hole with a NAC's snorkel plug. I run an EHS racing lid. I removed the snorkel to clean up the quad and reduce weight. It doesn't help any with the lid off.

I would just keep the snorkel on. It supports the air box and allows cool air to enter. If you keep your lid on (like me), it will create a dead air space inside the box which results in higher air pressure. The carb works based on pressure differences and when the throttle plate opens, the higher pressure air will rush inside the motor in order to equilize.
Or you could remove your lid and let a bunch of air fly right passed the filter w/ out enering the engine. And then remove the snorkel and let a bunch of hot air (from the motor) rush right passed the filter. Your call.
