my buddy has an 04 yfz 450 and he deosnt want to buy a arms and a new axle and swingarm for it if he cant put a newer motor in it because he thinks its outdated and wants to update it
so i was like i think u might be able to put an 07 or 08 motor in ur frame so idk if u can but im askin u guys
he wants to buy a new 07 or 08 motor off ebay if he can

Why would he need a new motor? I've upgraded my 04 and it's basically setup just like the 07's.

The newer motor should bolt right in, but that doesn't mean it is a good investment. Unless you get a smoking deal on the new one I would just improve the stocker.

But there were quite a few changes to the motor between 04 and 07, crank / piston, head and oil squirter that come to mind right off.

kind of a pointless swap out unless his is blown. just tell him to get a wr450 crank and the oil jet mod done and then he will be up to date with 450ccs and not 440ccs, bam done!

i dont know why he wouldnt want suspension over a few extra ponies

well he thinks its outdated, but if we can find a good deal on 1 i think he'll get it, i dont think he wants to spend a bunch of money on mods and he wants to get new arms and stuff idk he might buy a new 1 and sell his 04

Outdated (LOL)! It's the same bike. Unless he just has money to throw around he's wasting money. He won't get much for an 04 and he's going to pay over $7,000 for the same bike that he just sold? Like stated before, put the WR crank in it and do the oil squirter and the motor is basically the 07-08 motor. just trying to give a reasonable opinion. Afterall it is his money and he should do what makes him happy. It's just not a very smart decision in my opinion. An 08 is not going to make him any faster than his 04. That's solely based on skill
