So is anyone riding the winter series?
Posted by: duke416ex
I will be there, not sure which class yet though. Have a couple that will be there with me.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Cool, I ran the summer race at Westmoreland like 2 weeks ago. Its was rough. 1st one I ever raced. I only made it about 2 miles til I couldnt grab my clutch lever. I quit at about 4.5 miles. I knew then that I need to do some exercise on my forearms and some cardio. I couldnt even take my shirt off when I got back to the truck. One of my buddies Nathan won the 30+ C class. He made it 4 laps=36 miles.

welcome to the world of Midsouth racing.
Look us up and the races next time.
Rynn,
Are you considering making the jump to A or are you gonna wait and see what Scot says about advancements.
Posted by: Scro
I'm going to try to run all the races this year. In the past, I've cherry picked the close ones...but I plan on running for points in 16-24C.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Scro, so how old are you? In another thread you said u were 51.

I did that just for chits and giggles. Kinda funny seeing the people react that thought they knew how old I was
I'm 22
Posted by: smr
Scro..I know some boys from your area that you might be able to share expenses with.
Posted by: duke416ex
Harold, didn't notice your post til now. I was pretty sure I was going to get bumped to A, I was just waiting on the list. It just confirmed it the other day, I am not sur eif I am goign to run open or 4 stroke A though. I hope Damien is going to run pro and I think Braxton will say in C. All 3 bikes are apart right now, so if we don't get them back together soon we will all be out of shape when winter series gets here.
Posted by: fastredrider44
I'm gonna try to run a couple. Don't know how many yet though. I will be running with several other guys. Don't know what all classes they're running or how many they're planning to go to. I'm 19 never raced, but I'm pretty sure I'll be ok in C.
Posted by: duke416ex
The youger C class has some fast guys in it, or did I think they may have gotten bumped up. You may try to hi tthe one up in Cadiz if they still have it and run beginner class there. Good luck, and just have fun!!
Posted by: fastredrider44
Don't confuse me as being cocky, because I'm not, but I think I'm fast enough to run C. I ride with several other people who have raced C or currently run C, and I'm about they're pace. Where at in KY are you Duke416ex? The Cadiz race was going to be my first last year, but I didn't get my wheeler back together in time, and the rest of the year went downhill from there for me and my bike. Isn't there a buddy race in like crofton or something? I would definately be interested in that one.
Posted by: smr
last year the buddy race was in Cobb.
Sometimes they have it at LInton.
Posted by: fastredrider44
I ride at linton every now and then, but I heard a rumor that Knight and Hale game calls bought out the place that we ride. I don't know if that one is true or not, but I went in December and they had everything taped off. The next time I went, there were about 50 other people down there so I went ahead and rode. Now, they did quite a bit of logging to the left after all the mud. It didn't affect the riding too much, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Are u talking about Night n Hale located of the Cadiz exit going towards Turkey Bay
Posted by: fastredrider44
yes, except I come from Murray, so it's going away from Turkey Bay for me. Do you ride at Turkey much?
Posted by: 450Rchaser
We try to. Is there anymore places around there to ride
Posted by: fastredrider44
Well, a bunch of us used to ride at a place called wildcat, but they shut it down and I can't get another TVA ticket for being on fourwheelers or I'm out of luck. My dad owns 150 acres of woods, so I have a lot of my friends come to my house to ride. We also ride at a place called white beach. Its also TVA property, but we haven't ever been hassled there because we park at a friends house. Its alot of fun, and tight. It has claimed fenders, hubs, axles, tie rods, and spindles alike. We try to keep up with a local A-class rider, and that usually gets us in trouble. My friends also tends 1500 acres that we ride at regulary, and my buddies granddad owns 2500 acres that we ride as well. Have you ever rode at Paddy's Bluff? Its fun maybe once or twice, but it's either nothing but mud or dust, so its aimed for the utilities. I have rode at 800 MX in crofton Kentucky the last two times I've rode. MX is not my thing, but it's fun to switch it up every now and then. With the exception of Linton and Turkey Bay, everywhere we ride is pretty much private property. I feel like I've rambled enough, but I look foward to meeting some of yall at the races.
Posted by: smr
looks like you and I ride at a lot of the same places. We should hook up and ride.
Are you gonna be at 800 tomorrow night? I'm not sure if we are going or not, my kids race MX but it's hard to hit a race on a friday night after work and school.
I ride at Turkey bay often. I've been riding there since I was a kid.
I also go to Paddy's bluff on the holiday weekends.
Linton is OK but I don't really care much about that place.
Posted by: fastredrider44
No, I wont be at 800 tomorrow night. What kind of fourwheeler do you normally ride when you go to turkey and paddy's. You would like linton if you came with us. Where do you live at, and what kind of rig do you use to go riding? I drive a lowered black s-10 with blue flames. I also have a big silver honda wing in the back glass that you can't miss. Yeah, we should definatley ride sometime. Do you race/ what class?
Posted by: smr
I ride a YFZ450. I drive a 2003 dodge pulling a white inclosed trailer with SMR license plate on the rear. I'm easy to find at the Midsouth races. I run the 30b class....just look for the guy in the old riding gear wearing the jersey gloves and chrome chest protecter....
I have been all over linton...even in the day when we rode on the West Vaco land...don't care much for the place. I'll take Turkey bay over Linton any day.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
I liked how u said you were easy to spot. We pull a white enclosed trailer that syas " HOGGTOWN RACING" side
Posted by: fastredrider44
Hmmn. I like Linton pretty good. Where do you live? Also, does the name Justin Houston ring a bell to you. He either rides 30c or 30b. I think Paul McCoy runs Vet A, and I know him, and well as Mitch Craig Junior A, and Scott Mayfield, 21-26c or something like that. I know you would have had to have seen them at some point in time. Also, out of curiousity, why jersey gloves?
Posted by: smr
I know Paul McCoy and Mitch Craig. Don't really know the rest.
I live just outside of Hopkinsville.
jersey gloves....I only get one race out of them but I tend to get less blisters with them than any other glove I've tried.
Posted by: duke416ex
I live just a little north of Bowling Green. I m about ready to get back to riding. If we go riding sometime I will try to post up and invite some people.
I didn't think you were being conceited earlier. It is hard the first few races to get in the swing. I have a buddy for one reason or another didn't finish his first like 5 races, in fact he got knocked out in 2 of them. 2 tips I will give you are, stay with it, it will get better. The other thing, and I thin the hardest to learn is pace yourself. You will be there for 2 hours don,t try to win in the first lap.

Duke..yall going anywhere on Memorial day?
I'm thinking about going somewhere and camping if we get some rain.
Posted by: duke416ex
Probably not going anywhere. I just hope to be able to ride.
Looking at the schedule, the homepage says next race vanleer in september, but the cadiz race is scheduled before then? Just curious if anyone knew if the cadiz date changed also.
Posted by: JCoop
Harold,
You interested and going to LBL sometime if it rains? I was thinking about going sometime to get some ride time in.
Posted by: smr
sounds good to me. I need the training...
Posted by: fastredrider44
Let me know when yall go to Turkey. I'd like to go.
Posted by: JCoop
What's a good date for everyone?
Posted by: smr
not till after it rains.
Posted by: JCoop
Yea I hear ya. Last time I was there it was all dust. No water at all, even the parts that always hold water were dry lol. Zero visibility too. I dont think its suppose to rain anytime soon either.
Posted by: fastredrider44
I can let you know when it rains arounds here. I'm quite close to turkey. We got about a tenth of an inch yesterday afternoon, but as you know thats about enough to not do anything to a dusty trail. We're all praying for rain around here.
Posted by: fastredrider44
We got over an inch yesterday. That's still not much for the trails though. I just looked at the forecast, and next week is suppossed to be cooler and more rain.
Posted by: duke416ex
Got anywhere from 1/4 to over 3 inches around the county here. Would be nice to have the 450 back together to ride it.
Posted by: JCoop
Man I want to ride! I have this new 450r I want to test out but Vanleer was cancelled
Oh well.
Duke whats wrong with the 450? You in on going riding at LBL if we get the chance to?
Posted by: fastredrider44
I'd like to, and I'm sure some of my friends would too.
Posted by: JCoop
What is a good date for everyone to go? I was thinking about going this weekend but its still up in the air.
Posted by: fastredrider44
I might try to ride some this weekend. Can't Sat. but can Sun or Mon. Need to put my wheeler back together quick!!!

Posted by: crewworrior
yea man the dust was horrible, and your brother in law is fast man he was right on my *****,and i only got in front of him at the very end only, because he hit a little tree

who's racing round 2 in crofton
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Ill be there. not sure if im riding suzuki or honda. clutch is acting up on my honda.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Well, I lied earlier. I never made it to round 1, but I should be goin Sunday. Red 400ex #44. I should be with about five or so other guys.
Look for me.
Posted by: harescrambles
I'll be there, and looks like we get to play in the mud this time
Posted by: 450Rchaser
I would rather play in the mud than stir up a dust storm.
Posted by: fastredrider44
To celebrate the rain, I went and bought some more irazrs last night. My old ones were getting kinda bald. I'm looking foward to Sunday!
Posted by: fastredrider44
I was there. Who else was there?
Posted by: 450Rchaser
I was there.
Posted by: Scro
Still trying to get my motor back together...should be at next round.

Posted by: 450Rchaser
Well this is only my 3rd race so I dont really have my stamina built up yet. Im in 25-29 C. I was doing really good the first mile. I passed about six people in my class at a big pile up. After the first straight shot thru the edge of that field I got hung up on a tree. I got stuck in b/w my heel guard and back tire. I struggled for 10 mins trying to get it out. They totally drained me. Adrenaline pumping so I was probably not helping my situation most of the time I was fightin w/ the tree. I got a DNF.... AGAIN.
White Plains I was having clutch issues. About 5 miles into my 1st lap. Im tryin to get a good riding style down

I got 11th in 16-20C. It was my first true harescramble. I was doing pretty good, lead most of the first lap, but caught a rock on my rotor. No back brakes whatsoever. My fronts are really really weak right now too. I had to stop on the second lap and clean my goggles off at one of the dusty sections. I found one of those big water puddles by surprise and got water behind my roll-offs. It was a blast, I'll be at Cadiz too.

They had a couple pics of you on the website, or it was a quad that looked just like yours
Posted by: fastredrider44
Yeah, that was me. They had several pictures of some of my buddies on there too. It has been raining here for about 36 straight hours. I would say the next race won't be dusty whatsoever.

Well I finally got my 450 running again
What's the weather been like up that way?
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Well Im in Nashville right now and its mid 50s I guess. Its not freezing during the day but the if the wind blows you mite get a chill.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Sunday's high will be mid 60's, and sunny, but will probably feel a little cooler than that, especially in the woods. I'll be there.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Well did you make it this race Scro?
Posted by: JCoop
Scro's motor locked up on him.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
During the race or he didnt go.
Posted by: JCoop
During the race. I talked to him after the race. I think he said that it locked up on the first lap.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Was he wearing blue gear w/ an orange chest protector
Posted by: JCoop
Yea he was. We are in the same class. He got in front of me on the holeshot and got stuck behind about 5-6 riders and I went around them and that was the last time I saw him until after the race where he told me it locked up.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Cool, yeah I saw him in the big long stretch of creek bed kicked back on his 450 w/ his helmet off. Looked like he was pissed. Alot of people got hung up on that first hill. I got hung up on like the 4th hill. Rolled backwards about 5 ft. into a tree and let everyone go around me. I liked that race the best so far. You could actually get in the throttle in the woods.
Posted by: JCoop
Yea the track was a blast. I liked the creek section too. The 3rd lap it was really whooped out though. I went the the scoring tent in 4th on the first lap right on 2nd and 3rds bumper. We had a nice clip going but none of us could pull away from each other. Got to one of those hill climnbs and there was a ditch that I didnt see and nose dived into it so 2nd and 3rd got away from me. While I was getting out of the ditch a couple of other guys passed too. Had to settle for 5th on the day. Happy with the result but wish I could have held on for 3rd or 4th.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
This is only my 4th race ever so I went 1 lap and then made it all the way to that 1st gravel roads back in the woods and called it a day. Im trying to build up my endurance. After I got hung on that hill I rode by myself for the longest. I was just joyriding at my own pace. I loved those hills though. They were nice. The first couple of hills i was running w/ 2 other guys. When the 1st one got jammed up on ahill that when I stalled out and rolled back into a tree. The other guy took a different route and kept riding.
Posted by: Scro
Yeah....I was pissed lol. Everything in that motor had been double checked from crank bearing to valve cover bolts...too bad I forgot about the oil drain bolt. It's no telling how far I ran without oil, but it locked up in the rocky creek bed.
That hole you are talking about Jared, I think everyone found it. I found it the first time through, and everyone that I came to the race with got stuck in it...lol.
For the life of me, I couldn't ride out of it. I ended up having to turn the bike around and back down the hill. By that time, the beginner class had passed lol.
Oh well, that was probably one of the best tracks I've been on in a long time...maybe one day I will be able to finish a race when I get this POS running again.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Scro, you probably saw me in the creek. Red 400ex w/ dual exhaust. I was just cruising along at my own pace.
Posted by: Scro
Yeah, I saw you go by. I was thinking damn, I wish mine would make noise like that right now. Those dual exhaust sound good!
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Thanks, I started almost directly behind you in my class. I kept lookin at all the 450 in your class and I saw you sitting on yours. But at lakeview you had orange gear. Maybe you can get yours back going soon.
Guys I saw something HILARIOUS on the little bit of the 2nd lap that I ran. I stop a little past the top of that 1st good hill climb and was drinking some water. This guy comes out of the woods carrying some handlebars. He asked me if I saw a white 4 wheeler back that way. I said naw, are you looking for yours. He said yeah, as I kicked it in gear and started to ride again I was thinking how do you loose your 4 wheeler. ABout 1/2 mile up on the right there sat a white quad. I was moving pretty good then so I couldnt see if his bars were broken or not. It gave me a good laugh so I wasnt thinking about my arms hurting for a few minutes.
Posted by: JCoop
450rChaser, I think I saw you on the line. I remember seeing the dual exhausts. You have a sharp 400ex. I will come by and say hey next race.
Dustin, yea that ditch, hole, abyss, whatever you want to call it came out of nowhere. I thought there should have been an X to show some danger. I hope no one was hurt on that. So how much damage do you think you did when you locked it up? Things will turn around for ya. You going to Lynnville this weekend?
Posted by: Scro
Just depends on how bad the motor is broke. I had planned on tearing into it tonight, but Monday night football and dollar off domestic is sounding pretty appealing
Posted by: JCoop
LOL yea one day off motor work won't hurt. It might help you forget how mad it made you when it locked up too lol.

Thanks, I given that 400 alot of TLC and $. I have an 06 LTR that im trying to get setup for XC. Its a beast on a straight shot w/ all the work I have done to it but Ive been seeing 2 guys running stock width LTRs. One in my class and I think an older guy. Im just not comfortable w/ how wide it is and how narrow some of the trails are. This past race would have been the only chance to ride it so far but I stayed w/ the trusty old honda. The honda will lug 2nd down real low and can bring it up those steep hills by just giving it some more gas. Im a newbie at the hole race scene but have been riding 4ever. So if you come up behind me I will get out of your way. This season Im just out to condition myself not trying to hold anyone up that could be doing alot better w/o me in front of them.

And one was running MX tires at that. I don't see how he made it through the creek without tearing those tires to shreds.
Posted by: JCoop
Wow, I would think the 18 inch tires would hurt him on the hills with all the ruts. He had to be high centering that thing out constantly. The creek was wild, I dont want to think about how bad it would've been had it been running with water. I had to past a couple of guys in it because they wouldnt get out of the way and I about paid the price on it too. It was either do or die in that thing as rough as it was.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Yeah, those LTRs were bone stock from what I saw. Im runnin 22s up front and 21s in the rear on mine for ground clearance.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Some of yall prolly passed me in the creek. I found that large hole yall are talking about, and pile-drived the other side of it. I think I bent something. About a 100 yards later, I KOed a tree, because I think my fourwheeler was pulling, but it was so close to that hole I hadn't had a chance to check it out yet. I hit that tree third gear pegged. I bent my tie-rod real bad, and bent my front wheel pretty bad. I think my fram is ok, but I'm not sure of my hub or spindle. My bike didn't flip, but I went cartwheeling. I limped it a full lap, but I was probably chillin in the creek with of couple of my buddies who were spectating when some of yall rode by. Red 400ex. I finished that lap and took it to the truck. I'll try to take a couple of pics so yall can appreciate the damage. I'd still rather have this happen than a motor blow. Sorry Scro. Sounds like you lived true to your "convicted quad killer" name.
Posted by: fastredrider44
450r chaser: 21s in the rear? do you mean 20s? what kind of tires are they?
Posted by: JCoop
Probably the ITP GNCC rears, or Kenda. I think those two offer 21" rears.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Hmmn... Didn't know that.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Yeah 21" GNCC. The size of the tread b/w the 20s and 21s is crazy. My brother in law runs the same 21s on his 450r and loves them. If your quad can turn them over good enough to run tham than I would suggest gettin them.

you are still on the black 450r with elkas i believe?
you might not remember me, i raced saulsbury and burtons on a red stock looking 450r. i won our class and 3rd at burtons.
ive been keeping up with this thread, hate to hear that bout your motor. was it your tranny plug or engine?

Yeah I remember you but I've got red and black plastic now with Axis. It was the engine drain plug that fell out. Have you been to any races this year?

Results and Lap Times are posted on the Midsouth Website. www.msws.org

not since the memphis series ended, i raced evey even they had and won b class and overall atv championships. been wanting to do some mid souths but gas is to expensive for me to drive 5+ hours to do a 2 hour race. ill probally be at burtons, i hope they widen and straighten that track out. it was a nightmare on us quad guys. the batesville race that we had this year was the best track ive been on this year, lorrettas comes close but it was excellent!
what have you found damaged in your motor? sucks to hear that happened. i was planning on putting a new crank and piston kit in mine this winter since its an 05 with about 50 hours on it.

Haven't looked into yet, but I'm am looking for a dealer with an 06/07/08 kicker
I put a new crank and bearings into my 04, and I would say it had well over 50 hours. Both bearings had a little bit of play in them.

Good luck to everyone in Indiana...looks like I'm gonna be sitting this one out.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Well that suxs. I finally got to look thru all the pics. Scro, there is one of you when you thought you were gonna have a good day. It on of the 1st turns at the start. My buddy is in the pic too. Black 450R w/ green helmet and green gear.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Well, How did everyone do at lynnville? I didn't much like that place. I didn't hit any trees and kept my brakes the entire race this time and managed 6th in 16-20C. 73rd overall.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
I didnt get to go. But me and my buddy are doing the buddy run in 2 weekends in Cobb, KY
Posted by: fastredrider44
I wouldn't mind going to that one, but it's kinda a bad weekend for me. I think I'm going to have some family still in, and possibly have to take my sister to the airport, but we'll just have to see.
Posted by: JCoop
Where is the info about this Buddy Race? Where can I find it?
Posted by: duke416ex
Look at a race flier and call the number listed for the Cobb race.
Posted by: JCoop
Thanks Duke, I will check it out.
Posted by: Scro
I finally got the chance to tear the motor down from when it locked up, since I got a little bit of money saved up. (I figured there was no reason to see what was damaged until I had the money to fix it

Looks like I will need a new cylinder and piston, the side skirt scuffed up the cylinder pretty bad. All the bearings in the bottom were replaced the week before this happened, so I going to take my chances on them being OK. The crank is still turning smooth, so we will find out.
Oh, and I have to buy a new drain bolt

So who is planning on going to Westmoreland next Sunday?
Dustin, you got that motor back running yet? Let me be the first to remind you to make sure you tighten up the drain bolt!! lol.

I will be there with probably 5-8 other fellow racers.

Cylinder was supposed to be delivered today, but the damn holidays have Fedex backed up. Looks like it will be Monday before I can get it put back together. I plan on being there and, yes, not bolt will go unchecked.

This race is like 35-40 mins. from my house and probably wont make it. All my racing buddies are gonna try like hell to get my house situated w/ all the furniture.

Well I bit the bullet and went and picked up a new 07. We will see how the electric start will do at the race

Jake Yates

I saw you there, but I'm sure you didn't recognized me. I was right next to Paul McCoy when you drove by. By the way, How old are you?
Posted by: JAKE YATES
no i didnt see you, but im 23.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Jake. Looks like you had another decent race. This time I'll call you before the race to meet you. Anyone else go to MS? Who all's going to Vanleer?
Posted by: 450Rchaser
I went, loved that track. I would like to go there a joy ride and just. Those dropoffs down into the creek beds and gulleys were so fun. Im goin to be at Vanleer.
Posted by: fastredrider44
Those drop offs... Didn't bother me any, but I was three bikes back from the boy that got air-lifted out. It didn't look like he had much fun. How about the big hill? There were several bikes stalled at the top so I went straight, then back to the left to climb a different hill. Those were steeper than the one that was the main one. On the second lap, no one was stalled out, so I went up the main trail. It wasn't nearly as bad as the alternate route that I took the first time. 450R chaser, are you still on your 400 or have you started on the suzuki? And what class do you run?

Who all went? Jake, I tried to call you but I never had service down there. 450R chaser, saw your bike, but you were no where to be found.
That place was Rough! I'm on a stock suspension right now. Then again, I think any suspension was rough there. Anyone have any problem with the hills? I didn't, but I saw a couple of wrecks.

Where did you see my bike at? Did you like it? I thought that was a very good track except the little mx section. I was doin real good until I did a belly flop. Right after hazzard hill about 50 yds. down the trail my RF tire clipped a tree and it high sided and threw me pretty good. I landed right on my left knee and stomach. My knee still hurts. I stopped after I went thru the tent the 1st time. I had a pretty major leg injury in 06 so I wasnt takin any chance of having my 450 try to bend the titanium rod in my left leg.

Well, I'm beginning to learn who all of you are. SCRO, I saw you and JCoop when I went to pick up Trent Travis's trophy. His knee was buggin him so he stayed in the truck. 450Rchaser, How'd you do? Jake, did you go? How'd you do. I got 2nd in my class. I'll see all you at Cobb.

I got me a lap in. I have the fuelatv airbox eliminator. So I wasnt goin thru that creek again. The 1st time I went thru it full throttle in 2nd gear. It was like a tidal wave. But as soon as I pulled out into that open stretch of field it died. Took me a few minutes to get it back going.
Posted by: fastredrider44
I knew better than to do that. I went through rather slowly, mostly to keep my hands dry. I went though it at a rather quick pace on my third lap though.
Posted by: 450Rchaser
Yeah I probably should have done the same but I had been caught up in a few other clusters and was trying to make up time. Probably hurt more than helped.
