First gear taking off issue....

My friend has a new LTR, and it has to be one of the most difficult machines to take off on. It wasn't only me, but a few others were suprised as to how much gas/ how long you have to ride the clutch out to get this thing going.

And in the woods, forget it. It was constantly dying out in first gear.

IS this common? Any thing he can do to make it more at home on the trails?

If i let my clutch out slow enough i dont have to use any gas, its probably the easiest clutch on a quad ive ever owned. And the clutch likes to be popped at a high RPM without trouble.

hahaha my friends complained about that too but its an easy clutch when you know how to use it... but still DVXracer is right

Thanks for the feedback, but I still think they may be an issue with it. He's bringing back for a checkup soon, hopefully they'll be able to tell him something.

Where in joliet do you live ?

Is he running stock tires or 20"ers? I've never had a problem but others that have riddin mine have had a hard time getting going without stalling it.

I had no problem with the one I rode.

did u try adjusting the clutch? if he is running stock size rim and tires that is the first place i would look. if he is running 20's out back you should drop one tooth on the countershaft sprocket at a minnimum...i prefer 13/38 gearing though, much better for very tight woods.

I’ll recommend he run a different counter sprocket….thx for the help..

DVX- I live by college of St. Francis in Joliet.

Is it bone stock? Or does it have the Cherry Bomb, air box lid/spark arrestor removed?

The Cherry Bomb helped mine alot, but until I dropped 1 tooth on the countershaft AND learned how to ride it I still stalled it alot.
In my own defense, that was coming off of a 440ex with tractor like torque. The LTR has no bottom end at all!

second hardest clutch to get used to over everything i've ridden. only the outlaw 525 is worse but it's hydraulic and feels totally different. a 13T front sprocket will help the dying and killing it issues. when i run 20's in the sand, i have to pin it pretty hard to get out of the hole. don't be afraid, just dump the clutch baybee

My 9yo rides my LTR around the house like Tim Farr. You may need to tuck your skirt in and make sure both balls dropped.

hey thanks landon, barry(hondaracer31) isnt in that pic, thats me and kevin doing the down hill triple( ski jump)

oh, my clutch still works fine

I noticed that too, I stalled it out the first time i got on it. It was eaiser to stall out than any other quad ive rode but I've just gotten to were I rev it up and drop the clutch.

Never once had issues with 1st being too steep. In fact, I launch in 2nd gear off the start and only use 1st gear to drive the LTR onto my trailer. Perhaps you have issues with yours????

Check your owners manuel. They will explain how to use your clutch. In short-1)Pull in your clutch and select first 2)Slowly release the clutch while slightly giving throttle

Dont worry, you will get it right!!

Love my LTR!!!!!

once i bought the cherry bomb I had no problem in 1st with low rpm's and the clutch i thought to be really weak and I can take off with out touching the gas...
