Does anyone have the +4.5 widening from Diamond J Customs installed on their 250ex, if so please post some pictures.

Does anyone have +4.5?

Posted by: mx825

i know a few people on here that have the kits; they're all +6

Posted by: coolkid91

4.5 and the 6.0 is the same kit,the brakets have two sets of holes to choose from.if you look close you can see them

Posted by: Honda10

i know i just wanted to see a pic of +4.5 on a 250ex instead of a +6 kit.

You are correct, mx825, the brackets are the same for either kit. The tie rod extensions are different lengths.
I would find it hard to notice a 3/4" difference (on each side) in a picture, maybe in person or next to a +6 kit.
If you are worried about trail clearances, I would stick with the +4 1/2 width kit.

If i get the +4.5 widening from diamond J customs would i have to get tie rod exstentions and longer brake lines. and would i be sake with stock shocks?

Posted by: Honda10

Coolkid91, r u saying if i get the +4.5 kit that i can switch to +6 without getting the other kit.

Posted by: tedwilley

I believe that the only difference between the 4.5 and 6" kit is the length of the tie rod extensions. The stock tie rods would not be long enough. Tie rod extensions are necessary for either kit, or new longer tie rods.

New brake lines were not required, at least with my 250ex (+6").
I did reverse the brake line bracket closest to the wheel to provide clearance for the 400ex shocks

I posted pictures in this thread:
'Opinions on Diamond J Customs'

Overall pics are on page two and close ups of the brake lines and shock mounts are on page three

Here's an update on reliability:
The increased width and handling have allowed us ( my 13yo and myself) to go faster, especially around corners...
Therein lies the inevitable crash test.
My son was pinned in third gear, blasting around a turn which is hard packed dirt with a thin layer of slippery little dirt dingle berries covering it . It is also 'off-camber', meaning it slopes away from the inside, the opposite of a banked turn.
He was just starting to break the rear end loose when he caught his outside tire on a rock or rut. Instead of powering out of trouble, he panicked and rolled the quad. Off the edge into a 4-5 foot ditch and up against a field fence. He landed with the quad completely upside down on top of him.
No serious injuries, as we always 'dress for the crash-not for the ride'. Only his pride and the left rear fender got bent.
NO damage to any suspension or frame components, didn't even tweak the front end alignment.
BTW, I had just finished polishing the fenders the night before!

so the diamond j customs kit comes with tierod extentions

Posted by: Honda10

Posted by: mx825

Why would that be a waste of $$$
Dual rate would give a smoother ride.
