Ok, I have a 04 z400 with extensive mods and I am sick of the terrible k@n on the stock airbox. I have a 400ex intake and k@n and want to use it but it seems like the filter maybe too big for the airbox. I was planning on cutting the hole bigger in the box and trying to mount the intake in there, has anyone done that?

ive heard of getting a 400ex intake boot or somthing liek that since its straighter flowing, then just get a prodesign intake or somthing of the like. much better design that seals well and is sturdy.

some thing like this http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f9/cataway/3-28-2007LS273.jpg
its easy to do ,you dont have to have the bracket to hold the filter
pipe clamps around the frame will work .

yea, the 400ex intake is a common mod and said to be well worth it.. but any 400ex filter i have ever seen is way too big...

way to big? do you mean to big to go into the stock airbox? you could mod the air box.and there are other filters,UNI, K&N ,bigger is better!

yes there too big.. .as in too big to even be stuffed in the air box... believe me ive tried it.. and alot of people do not want to "mod " there air box due to riding conditions... theres only so much you can do with a stock airbox.

Is there an aluminum box that uses the intake and filter?

I'm going to assume you mean the problem with the stock air box
is the filter mounting thing in the air box that won't allow a bigger filter to be set in to it. maybe you dont know this but you can force that bump out if you heat it with a heat gun, you have to get it rather hot and using a blunt stick and a bit of persistence
it can made to take on a more suitable form.
it wont be what ya would call pretty but it might be what your after.
i would have mine set up this way but I'm riding so much sand right now that no air box it just a better option right now.
