Does anyone know the best method to remove the bearing that in recessed in the case in the gear area? not the needle bearings that the main shaft rides in but the other bearing that is recessed off to the side? thanks

Heat case around bearing(alum expands faster that steel) and tap the outside of the case with plastic mallet it should fall out.

or weld a rod to it and use a slide hammer.

The tool you need is called a "blind bearing removal tool". A good MotionPro set is $225. Or, you can get your local shop to pull the bearing for you.

i bought a cheap auto dent puller at the auto parts store to do it. took a nail and ground the point flat then bent a small L in it and put it in the dent puller. put the L behind the bearing through the center and use the slide hammer to pull it out.
