did the factory change the gearing in the sprockets in 04 or was it in the trani???

Actually neither is correct. Gearing from 02-05 is identical, trans and sprockets both. In 04 the flywheel and one-way bearing were changed but it had no impact on gear ratios.

The 01 models differ from the 02-05, the only difference in ratios comes in 1st gear. Although there are parts that are different b/w 01 and 02-05.
